OK my question could have been better phrased. Is it possible.. for the dog and I to dislike each other.
The dog is a 6 month old GSD ***** with a good pedigree. She comes from a small litter where she was the alpha puppy. She is a beautiful looking dog and is developing well, the vet says there are no health problems. I have a structured routine for morning and evening excercise which overall is about 2 to 2 1/2 hours daily, this includes about 20 mins firm but fair basic obedience to which she does reasonably well. She is well fed and eats enthusiastically, please understand that I do care very much about the animal. This is not the first GSD I have owned, but it is the first time I have experienced what I can best decsribe as indiffernce. Where am I going wrong?

it could be that your dog is trying (or believes she is) to be the alpha of the household and so doesnt regard you with much interest which inturn would frustrate you to high heaven!
i had a king charles spaniel that didnt listen to a thing i said until i bought her food out. i think she had more ego than i did! as shes only 6 months old shes still a pup, you may find she changes as she gets older. although if you feel that you really dont get on and cant abide her then i would see about re-homing her and give you both some peace!

its perfectly possible. The question remains for what reason you dont like your own dog, how long has he been with you, did you raise him? Do you find ithe dog ugly? Is it perhaps a trait? When its about behaviour and you had it as a puppy, than the issue is always the owner of the dog. A dog trainer/shrink will tell you just the same and most deviating dog behaviours can be resolved. However if this is about aggressiveness and biting then i fear the worst...
UPDATE: if you feel the dog is indifferent it means she's taking control of you (girl power? he he!) . But seriously, maybe she's like that because she's still very young or perhaps you're giving her too much attention. If you keep up the latter, believe it or not the dog is going to boss u around (lots of barking and sometimes growl). You gotta let her know you're the boss by acting aloof, only give attention when she's done good and completely ignore her when she ignores you or even when she's after you to get attention... it sounds harsh i know. But i hope you won't take more drastic measures, she's just needs to be educated the right way.......

Yes, it is. Each dog has its own distinct personality. So do people. Its impossible to tell exactly what your dogs personality is going to be when its a puppy; you pick a breed or type, you pick the right puppy, you raise them as best you can and you hope to luck!
Two birds of the same species are very alike; dogs have much stronger personalitites. There is very little you can do if its a personality clash except try to rehome the dog.
Anyone who has worked as a dog trainer or in rescue has met perfectly decent owners who have just ended up with the wrong dog. Its very sad but thats real life.

Ohhhh yes. I had a dog that I raised from a tiny pup and we just did NOT get on. This was a straight personality clash and there was no solution to it other than to re-home him with a more suitable family. None of our other dogs have ever been a problem like this, we have 3 now and they are all great. He went on to live a long and happy life with his new family, so it was all good in the end. Breaks your heart though.

if you dislike your own dog, please take a look at your situation and see if you're treating your dog right. ALSO, you might want to think about finding a new home for him.
Ask yourself, if this dog belonged to "so and so" (because it'd be a different dog, you may like its company), would I have a problem with the way it is treated.
I'm having a hard time understanding why you'd dislike your own dog. I guess I need more info.

Yes. If you have problems with your dogs behaviour or your dog doesn't trust you then you won't like each other.
Also, if you are not able to commit the time to caring for your dog properly you will grow to resent it and then dislike it.
Tough position to be in!

You should seriously consider giving him up, because why torture him by keeping him with you when you don't even like him? Maybe he can get into a loving home and get the good attention he needs...

Absolutely, sometimes personalities just don't match up. It would be better to find him another home if you just don't enjoy keeping him.
