your in luck.... I have candida. You can heal your body in a couple of different ways.......1) like your boyfriend is trying to do...
cut out ALL FORMS of yeast & sugar (mainly processed sugars - candy, sodas, etc).... NOT FUN!!!
2) the way I did it......... you can buy supplements at health food
stores that help with that. Go to your local health food store and just ask the clerk if they carry something for candida and they will direct you. The supplement I take is by some Sun company. I cant remember the exact name. Go to your local healthfood store.
Basically, ones body is missing something that helps to process the yeast & sugars. People who have taken alot of prescription drugs seem to have this problem. I was sick alot and took alot of
antibiotics when I was growing up.
Also, eating whole foods will help. Foods that dont have
all the preservatives and whatnot. Example: I dont buy flavored
yogurt. I buy plain yogurt and put fruits in it.
Acidophilus...I think that is the spelling is VERY IMPORTANT in overcoming candida
Check out this website....they have some good information.
I learned alot by doing research on the internet.

I've been treating my recurring Candida symptoms (under the guidance of a holistic & homeopathic physician) for the last 15 years. Here's some advice:
1. Candida is an overgrowth of yeast in different areas of your body. Your body normally has a balance of bacteria (good bacteria) and some yeast. This is normal. Candida albicans occurs when this balance is upset and the yeast grows out of check. This CAN be caused (and is most often caused by) too many antibiotics and/or steriods. (Not the only causes, but the most prevelant.)
2. You need to correct the imbalance to bring the body back to it's normal state. This involves both controlling the yeast and replacing the good bacteria, commonly called "friendly flora".
3. It is essential to avoid sugar, a product called Stevia is a great replacement. Most people who have yeast problems wind up with other conditions too, that are associated "by-products" of the condition. Like food allergies. In addition to avoiding sugar, uou should avoid chemicals in/on anything that you eat, meaning that you need to switch to organics as the foods are grown without any chemicals. This also includes milk, dairy products and meats - all can be had in organic form. (Cows, poultry and other meats are often shot up with growth hormones and fed steady diets of antibiotics as they're kept in close quarters and prone to infections - if one gets sick all will very quickly so this is a preventative measure.)
4. There's no way to give you all the information that you need here - previous advice for Dr. William Crook's book "The Yeast Connection" is an excellent bible for anyone with this problem. He and his nurse published another book - a cookbook a few years ago that's excellent too: "The Yeast Connection Cookbook".
5. Whenever possible, try treating any infection with an appropriate herb (like echinacea & goldenseal, colloidal silver as well as garlic or oil of oregano.) This will keep your recurrances to a minimum. When you need an antibiotic for a serious condition, make sure that you support your system and replace the "friendly flora" that the antibiotics will indiscriminately kill off.
6. There are a lot of support groups online with lots of advice. Make sure that you find a physician that understands and treats this affliction and run ideas past him before trying anything that you read online. I've found a lot of contradictory advice, and it took a lot of studying and research before I was able to discern what was good advice and what was bad.
7. There is an excellent reference book for anyone who's looking for natural answers to their health problems called "Prescription for Nutritional Healing..." that will help you find natural answers to your health problems.
8. Also be aware that many other conditions can stem from struggling through Candida, so be sure to mention any problems to your doctor when they occur. The longer you wait to treat them, the harder it will be to treat them and the longer it will take before you feel "normal" again.
Good Luck to you!

Candidiasis is caused by Candida albicans, a notoriously shameless bacterium . Start taking 16 glasses of clean water in 16 hours that means 250 ml. after every hour. Sit in upright position and do Praanaayaama(deep breathing exercises) for one hour daily on empty stomach. you should get good results within 10 -15 days.

I would say in case of his "candida", i think you cannot find any "proper" substitutes for sugar. You could obviously ask your doctor if honey is ok to use or sweeteners??? I am not so sure about that. For yeast though, if he loves bread, try soda bread or original rye bread. There is no yeast in them. The only thing is that you should also be avoiding white flour (in soda bread but not in all rye breads) so for example you should not be eating pasta etc. The best thing is to go to a place like Holland and Barrett and see what wheatfree/sugarfree/yeastfree products they have. Expensive but maybe worth trying. You can buy quite nice corn pasta and rye bread there. Wish you lots of luck!

Its more about yeast than sugar. We need a level of sugar (glucose) in our body to survive and Im not sur of the wisdon of trying to cut it out completely.
Is he doing this under the supervision of a doctor? If not then I suggest he rethinks it or talks to a doctor about it, coz to me it sounds risky.
