How do you know the dog is having nightmares? My dog has dreams, during which her legs look like shes running and she lets out these little muffled barks. It's SO cute. But I always thought that she was dreaming about chasing bunnies. If you knew that the dog was having a nightmare, I would wake them up. I would want to be woken up if I was having a nightmare. But how do you know that they're having a nightmare and not dreaming about chasing bunnies?

i have a large dog and you can tell when he's having nightmares. He cries and makes scared noises like he never makes when he's awake--very easy to tell apart from his happy dreams.
I ALWAYS wake him up. I have bad nightmares and love being woken up out of them.
Just be careful when you do it. My dog has never once reacted aggressivel towards me, but I'm sure there are others (no matter how good natured) who will. Suggestion: Call him/her by her name a few times before resorting to physically shaking him/her.

not quite, it could be like waking a baby up from a nightmare. It would not have any lengthy time period outcomes and it may also be relieved. in spite of the indisputable fact that it would want to be a daily dream, notwithstanding if that is crying it could be because that is having a dream that strange.

Well some people say yes you should allways wake a dog when they dreaming but i only do if my 2 look really stressed.
If they just kinda giving a high little bark and waging their tail i don't wake them.
But if you do wake them call them gently don't go 2 them as they could bite you.

I usually wake mine up because he barks in his dreams and wakes up the whole house. He doesn't seem to mind. He just looks confused for a second or two and goes back to sleep.

How do you know he is having a nightmare? My dog makes all sorts of goofy noises in her sleep. Maybe he is chasing bunnies! Let the pup snooze.

Just leave it sleep! You don't wake up people just because they are dreaming, why would you wake up a dog?

Yes, because it might die in its dream and then it will die in real life. The same thing could happen to you so always sleep with a tennis ball taped onto your back and Johnny Depp sitting up in your room with a baseball bat.
