They are phlebotomists. They have had training to draw blood and start i.v.'s but they are not nurses. Nurses also do the same thing but you can get special training to be phlebotomist only and it is a shorter train time than nursing is.

LOL when I was in hopital and saw the doctor after my blood test he said to me, looking at the bruise, 'Oh I see the vampires have been at you', You had to be there.

I'm not sure of the correct term, but they usually take medical lab sciene in university in order to work in the lab and assist in lab work.

If you go to a lab to have it done, it's a lab person. Doesn't need to be a nurse.
