There are two types of firewall: Hardware and Software.

If you use ADSL and are considering really strong security I make the following recomendation:

Firstly, purchase an ADSL router that has a "stateful packet inspection" firewall built in. My personal fave is a Netgear.

Secondly, get a good protection suite on your PC. Again, from personal experience I recommend a combination of Norton Security Suite and Webroots Spy Sweeper.

That way you have 2 firewalls between you and the Internet.

Next, don't use Mail clients such as Outlook. Use your ISP's web mail tools or get a mail account from the likes of Yahoo! where there are built in anti-virus and anti-spam features.

Finally, be careful of USB sticks, floppies, CD's and portable devices. Always scan any file from an external device before you open it.

personally I would go for a hardware firewall with WEP encryption and use in conjunction with a software firewall. This would assure the greatest amount of security if configured properly.

If you are asking about a network firewall, I would recommend the Fortinet 50A. It is the only firewall with realtime virus protection. I use them when I set up small networks, if you have a larger network, they have larger products.

doesnt matter how many firewalls u have they are all breakable.
no firewall will give 100% security. but will require a really good hacker to bypass security.
