Pros - company for other cat
- More kitties for you to love
Cons - More fur to clean up
- competition if not introduced properly
It is also harder to take two cats to the vet at once, solution is to take them one at a time.

There are a lot of good reasons for getting a second cat. I had one cat for 3 years and he wound up being very destructive but when I brought another cat in he calmed down a lot (plus I got him fixed! LOL)
In fact I have heard of a country where it is illegal to sell just one cat...that you have to buy at least two. Cats are very social creatures continually grooming one another so they new cat would keep the other company. It might take awhile cause some do not warm up immediately but it is well worth it.
When I started raising my two kittens I also discovered that two litter mates make the best combination...they had no choice cause their mama died when they were not more than 2 weeks old. I dropper and pet bottle fed them till they could eat solid food...They are now 3 and a half months old and eat and play like little fiends! LOL The keep each other company and so far they have not been scratchers...fingers crossed!
The down side is you will have to pay more in vet bills and in food but other than that, it's all good!

Pros- A buddy for your cat, another kitty to snuggle.
Cons- More cat hair, higher vet bills, another litter box to clean...(if you have two cats, you should have three boxes)
Plus...there is never any guarantee that they will ever get along....though, if you do the intro slowly as your shelter will tell you about...and if you are patient and don't expect them to be immediate friends, it should be fine eventually...make sure to pay attention to your first cat alot so they don't feel jealous. Getting a kitten will probably also help your cats maternal/paternal instinct kick in and they will be more likely to accept it. (Just watch your puppy around a kitten..they are normally good but can forget how strong they are.)
PS...Please don't declaw your cats.

Cons -
-another litter box,
-another mouth to feed, more vet bills
-fighting between the two cats,
-and the new cat possibly bringing illness or disease to the one you already own
-new cat bringing bad habits into your home such as urinating and defecating outside the litterbox
-the cat you already have could start urinating and defecating outside the litterbox to show his discontent with the new pet (this happened to me)
Pros -
-your cat would have a buddy
-knowing that you have given an animal a safe and loving home
Wow, the "cons" are winning... Well, I have two cats and it's much more fun then having just one. Just hope the one you pick out gets along with the one you already have. Mine only fight when they're "high" on catnip :)
Good luck with your decision!

Well the only bad thing that I can think of is that maybe your first cat won't like the second cat. I have two cats and it took the first one a little while to get used to the second cat now they play together lay together. The second cat was such a good idea now they keep each other company all the time.

Pros- Your current kitty will have a companion. Cleaning up after two cats is pretty much the same as one.
Cons- There may be some territorial issues- Like spraying.

1st you have to ask yourself? is your first cat having a good day? well ?
2nd, ask yourself what will your 1st cat do with a 2nd cat around. Will it be a cat fight, or will it be peace. Next, if your not a home owner, you will have to ask permission, and have the cat de scented, and de clawed, then when the cat starts chewing on the walls you may have to get its teeth pulled. Vet bill could put you in the soup lines, unless you get a 2nd job.....so check out this site with the bills
