As a registered dental hygienist and a current dental student, I recommend Crest Whitestrips over more expensive in-office procedures unless you are in a hurry for whiter teeth. The level of carbamide peroxide (whitening agent) in whitestrips varies so the amount of time can vary, as well, depending on which percentage you get. The stronger formulas will work more quickly, but can cause severe sensitivity. If it becomes an issue, limit use to once per day (instead of twice), or even once every other day. It will take longer, but you will get the same results. Also, the level of whiteness achieved between most brands is significant and most will whiten to approximately the same level. In other words, the differences between brands or with in-office whitening can't be determined by the naked eye. If you have any other questions, feel free to call your dental office and ask them for their opinions or recommendations.
Also, the toothpaste works to remove surface stains because it contains a mild grit that brushes them away. The bleaching kits contain a form of hydrogen peroxide that oxidizes within the tooth to oxygen free radicals that attach to internal stains. These complexes can then be removed by the body, lightening your teeth from the inside. Good luck.

Crest White Strips are effective, but as you said"mildly".
There is a procedure done by your dentist that is called Brite Smile or Zoom. It is a 3 hr. visit, which consists of applying a bleaching material to your teeth and sitting under a blue light. 3 hrs. may seem like a long time, but your visit will be comfortable. Usually they will have a TV you can watch.
I am a dental assistant and have preformed this procedure many times. The results are incredible!

Use the crest white strips. Or the cologate whiting paste you put on your teeth at night and in 1-2weeks you have whiter teeth.

You can use the whitening strips. or you can ask your dentist to clean them or scale them. More over don't forget to clean your teeth before going to bed, to remove the plaque(which makes the teeth look yellow), and floss your teeth regularly. And meanwhile as a simple tip you can add a pinch of salt on your tooth paste which makes the teeth sparkle.
