They eat what we feed them. If on there on their own, the revert back to pack animals.

Most dogs will eat just about any type of human food, even if it's poisonous to them like chocolate is.
We feed dogs dog food because it's cheap and fullfills the dog's nutritional needs. If we didn't have dog food you'd have to go to the butcher every day, get parts of animals not fit for human consumption (after all, good meat is expensive), take it home, and prepare a meal for a dog two times a day. You'd also have to prepare rice and vegetables to put in it.
It's far easier and cheaper to just open a can or dump a cup of dry food in their bowl.

Dogs eat the food that you give them. If they were on there own they would scavenge . Dog food is made to a formula that is nutritionally correct for dogs. It is colored to make it palatable looking to humans . We always fed our dogs all the table scraps so that they ate meat and vegetables. Some people think that is wrong. They will eat what you give them unless they havae been spoiled . I know someone who cooks a turkey each week for her dog.

Most countries distinguish between feed and food grade at source. It is illegal to use feed grade proteins for anything in food. (By the way ,, am I still right to think that England still does not have CODEX? )(Which means that the government wouldn't know feed from food.)
Dog food is by far cheaper per unit protein.
A lot of our burgers are starch filled.

Because we feed them with special dog food. Believe me, my dog would eat everything I do.
