allrecipes.com has THOUSANDS of recipes that involve stuff like Campbell's soup, plus Tater Tots, plus Velveeta, plus Corn Flakes, plus margarine...

Apparently wildly popular cuisine in some areas. Who knew?

It's got me thoroughly curious. And the other half here genuinely likes some stuff that I think of as a bit white-trashy -- cream of mushroom from a tin, Kraft Dinner, &c. So if it's not done entirely as a joke, it might end up as good comfort food. Er. Maybe.

I'm figuring the main dish is one of those Tater Tot casseroles, and dessert has got to involve Cool Whip, but am open to suggestions. I'm at a loss for side dishes. Spinach salad would seem very weird next to something made with an entire jar of Cheez Whiz. What on earth are the vegetable sides here?

(And please stop giving me a dirty look. Like you didn't squeal 'ewww!' the first time you heard what 'sushi' was.)

I can't believe I forgot fussy Jell-O things. And creamed corn.

But my favourite, so far, is Wonder bread garlic bread. Can I put a slice of processed cheese on it?

The iceberg lettuce comes with the dressing already on it, and _way_ too much, right? What sort of things do I festoon it with? A solitary slice of really bad tomato, and...?

I once did a white trash dinner and we did pigs in a blanket (which can be done with veggie dogs), had Easy Cheese (cheese in a can), deviled eggs and made Ritz Mock Apple Pie for dessert.

See here for THAT recipe:

For vegetables, you would have things like greens or okra cooked with salt pork or ham hock - the meat could be omitted. Fried okra or fried green tomatoes also count. But the ultimate white trash veggie is fried pickles.

Don't forget that you need cocktails made with blue kool-aid and a couple of 40's of malt liquor.

Enjoy your party.

Cream corn for a side dish. Make a jello mold with cool whip on it. A green one. With fruit in it. Serve up a bowl of Spaghetti-Os and make garlic bread with Wonder bread. Don't forget the Ants on a Log (celery filled with peanut butter and sprinkled with raisins), Have a supply of Twinkies on hand if people can't get with Jello.

Frito Pie is one of my favorites. It's chili, cheese, and chili cheese flavored Frito's. I usually put a layer of Frito's at the bottom of the bowl, fill it up w/ chili, top with shredded cheese, then more Frito's.
White trash sushi is a great dessert, all you need is fruit roll-ups, rice krispie treats, and gummy worms. Lay the fruit roll-up out flat, microwave the rice krispie treat for a few seconds to soften it and flatten it out on top of the roll-up, put a gummy worm in the center and roll it all up. Then just cut it up into sushi size pieces.
