any suggestions on what to put on my rat terrier this winter. Do they get colder faster than other dogs because of there thin coat?

They get cold faster than dogs with longer coats

Just a normal dog sweater will suffice. If the dog is inside make sure to take the sweater off, if you leave it on then the dog will not grow a sufficient winter coat and he will in turn get colder.

My Papillon has the same problem. In the fall she has some sweaters and sweatshirts, she also has a sheerling jacket, and she has a bright orange rain coat with a flannel lining. I am embarassed to admit she also has sundresses, shoes, hats, and all kinds of other strange things my mother started sending for her. She seems to take it literally when we refer to her as "the little girl" ;)

I would get them a sweater or a coat and then these things call mutlucks which are like little booties/gloves for dogs. That way their paws dont get frost bitten and crack and bleed. My terrior and my beagle love them. They even have refletors on them for walking in the evenings.

I have a black one. We have had him since he was a puppy. He lives with my grandfather in the middle of the woods and is an outdoor dog. No leash (lotf of land).

My grandfather made a big dog house for all his dogs. It is insolated and filled with hay. If it gets too cold he lets them come in the basement and sit by the furnace.

He will be okay though...like all animals, they do grow a winter coat, its just an extra layer of fur.
