HIV can cause AIDS but you can have HIV and not AIDS. This is extreamely dangerous because you can still transmit the virus. HIV is the virus that causes AIDS. AIDS is Accuired Immune Difficiency Syndrome. It sounds like you may need some information about AIDS and HIV.

All medical research shows that HIV causes AIDS. There is NO evidence that shows otherwise.
Professor Peter Duesberg, a virologist at the University of California at Berkeley proposed the theory that HIV does not cause AIDS in 1987. Since then no evidence has been uncovered to support this theory. All evidence points to the fact that HIV causes AIDS.
Stop spreading such ignorant and harmful rumors without doing your research.

yes, HIV causes AIDS. ANymore the two are pretty much indistinguishable. Without treatment ones CD4 count WILL go down, and your viral load will go higher and higher. Once your CD4 count drops below a certain level you are considered as having AIDS. You CAN though, go on treatment and get your CD4 count back up, and your viral load can be undetectable (you'll still be HIV+ though, for the antibodies to HIV, so once your HIV+ your always HIV+).
So if you can go up and down, does this mean you are going in and out of AIDS?? I think not. Most doctors will tell you they are pretty much the same thing anymore. You have a virus and an immune system. It is where your body is at with it's ability to fight off infection that counts.
Now, as far as those that believe the HIV virus does not cause AIDS, these are a dangerous group of people. It is one thing to have a belief, but it is another entirely to spout that belief to a point that others may die if you convince them of that.
To the person that said that you cannot have AIDS without HIV, to an extent that is true, but you CAN get other forms of Acquired Immune Deficiency without the HIV virus (there are other viruses), it's just that we call this one with the syndrome AIDS. So, technically, AIDS withouth HIV...no. HIV not causing AIDS....that's just stupid and your playing a horrible game of russian roulette with that.
One of the biggest naysayers of the HIV doesn't cause AIDS community lost her daughter. SHe refused to test her for the virus, and treat her. Fact is, this person was HIV positive, and in all liklihood passed the virus on to her daughter. How she sleeps at night, I will never know, but she allowed her daughter to die of an opportunistic innfection that kill people with AIDS. She still denies that HIV causes AIDS. Talk about dumb. How far into denial can one go?
Another AIDS denialist died of CMV, which most people have, but doesn't normally kill you, unless you have AIDS.
So, I say, if you are in doubt, you are in denial. Have sex unprotected with someone that is HIV positive and see where your life goes. Don't think it will change? Haha. Deny till you die.

HIV isn't something of the nature that one believes in or doesn't believe in. It's been proven through medical research to be the precursor to full blown AIDS and therefore the cause. I don't know why you would want to try to fool yourself like that unless you have been diagnosed with HIV, or someone close to you has, but trying to do the ostrich trick of hiding your head in the sand is not going to help. You need to face it head on and do what you can to try to stay healthy.

well lets look at the facts:
1. all people with AIDS are HIV
2. no people with AIDS who are not HIV
3.can be HIV but not AIDS
So if the presence of HIV does not cause AIDS why would it be there at all, if they were not the same virus mutated why would every patient have it. Only one reason: it mutates into AIDS. I hope this was simple enough for you .

Considering how much information we have on it, and how much we know about it, and that it is a world wide epidemic, uh YEAH I'd say it's the real deal and I hope you are using condoms. Just because you don't want it to be real doesn't mean it is safe to ignore it, nor is it right to pass on bad information. Wake up and smell the coffee. What you are saying is worse than the people saying the holocaust never happened.

Yes I believe in HIV/AIDS its a shame that we have to worry about this because people can't stay with one partner or they have to have gay relations.. It wouldn't be a problem if people would follow man and women and stay in same relationship...
