The people who are replying "yes" are WRONG! I'm thumbsing-down those people right now.
HD-DVDs will NOT play on regular DVD players. Period. Full stop. End discussion.
HD-DVD players, on the other hand, are backwards-compatible with DVDs.
Anyway, there are less than 120 HD-DVD titles out right now, and less than 110 Blu-Ray (the other, competing, incompatible high-definition disc format) titles, with some titles common to both formats. So I strongly doubt that any Blockbuster is going to primarily stock HD-DVDs and Blu-Ray Discs right now. In fact, as far as I know, most franchises don't carry them in their brick-and-mortar stores (though they can be rented from Blockbuster's online service and Netflix).

HD DVDs will NOT play in regular DVD players. They are a different format and virtually a different type of disc. Check again with blockbuster because there might be a misunderstanding about their movies. It wouldn't be profitable for them now to have all their movies in HD DVD format since most people don't have HD-DVD players yet.

What you heard about the movies in blockbuster is not true.
Most DVDs are still the older format. HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are new and may become standard but not anytime soon.
