I know prisoners aren't supposed to have sex, but they do anyway right? So, why won't the officials just let them have condoms?

They don't mind if prisoners pass it to each other. The problem is when people get out of prison and have sex without condoms.

Because if a prisoner has crack or something in his cell, and knows it can be found anytime, a prisoner uses a condom to put his drugs in, and can then swallow the condom if needed....and later he'll digest it normally, and the drugs will still be inside the condom.
Plus, most of those b*stards deserve AIDS.

I guess one of the reasons is, that would seem like the state is condoning them to have sex, and secondly I don't think it would make that much of a difference, alot of the men in jail are going to be in there for a long time or for the rest of their life,so I guess that has made them pretty ruthless and they feel like they don;t have anything to loose so they are most likely not having consensual sex, but raping someone and in that case who has time to put on a condom?

because they can use it as a weapon of suffocation and on top of that it would be a right. and the people at the prisons dont believe prisoners should have rights. basically it doesnt make since for them to have sex in prison because its not right.

Politicians just stick their heads in the sand and refuse to acknowledge a severe epidemic within our prison system.

Because it contradicts the rules...you cant have sex but then the same people give out condems to prevent sex....
There is no freedom of choice for prisoners. Its not like teenagers.

What's wrong with prisoner's getting AIDS? Capitol punishment is expensive, so there's a cheaper alternative.

Maybe nice comfy double beds too..they are in prison because the have offended society..not to enhance their sex lives..maybe if they just got bread and water they wouldn't be as keen to go back...

That is a good point- but i'm assuming there going with the "dont ask dont tell" philosophy! I think they are thinking if they are offering that to them then that means they are "accepting" it....I guess they just hope that if they aren't offering them anything they won't do it...That's nasty that they are doing it and that aids is rampant!
