If you want to make your room to look bigger you shouldn't use any dark colors.. Then lighter it's then bigger. Use your light green and change your dark green for White. Do ceiling white and do corners white - so it's look like thick colons. Also do white 1 feet on top of wall around the ceiling and same around the floor. The rest you can do light green - will look bigger.

The "accent wall", the one that can make a room look bigger, will not do any good in a basement. It has something to do with the structure/height of the wall and the angle of light that hits it. This won't happen in a basement. It might look like you just goofed and painted two shades of green by mistake.

How about painting the dark green on the bottom of the wall, and the light green on top? Or a sponging or ragging or something?

You'll only want to paint a dark green if the room has high enough ceilings. If you want your room to look bigger, paint all 4 walls dark green and put the lighter green on the ceiling. Or you can paint the ceiling and two walls dark green and the other two walls light green... it would have helped to see a picture of the room.... And don't forget that when you put dark paint on walls, you'll want to use a mat paint instead of a shiny one because dark colors make all the defects show up... Good luck..
