when in doubt go. Or at least call. Shortness of breath is normal only to the extent that you feel like you've been running, not that your about to pass out. If your heart is racing, its working too hard to get you and baby air... call the doc and ask to have your blood pressure taken. best of luck to you

It never hurts to call your Dr, but it seems like normal pregnancy symptoms to me. Your body is going through many changes and lightheadedness and heart palpatations are fairly common along with fainting. Go get a book called " what to expect when you are expecting" by Heidi Murkoff. It's the pregnancy bible and will help with all these questions. I refer to it almost daily right now and I am due Feb 2, 2007. Your question as well as many others that you would not expect is in there. It's excellent in describing all of these little things that worry moms and help distinguish when something is "normal" or not.
Good Luck!

Are you sure you a not just feeling the baby flutter? The first couple times I felt my baby flutter it felt like a racing heart. If it really is a racing heart, then you should call your OB and just make him/her aware of it. Fainting is pretty common in pregnancy and your pulse often increases during pregnancy, but if you feel something is wrong DO NOT HESITATE TO CALL YOUR DOCTOR! Good luck with your pregnancy and I hope all goes well for you and baby!

I think you will be ok I started the same thing I called my doctor up and asked her about it cause I didnt have it with my first pregnancy and she said as long as my breathing isnt too hard. Instead of going to the doctors since you might not get in, give him a call if you are worried and see what he says.

It's better to be safe than sorry, especially if this is your second baby, and you didn't notice it with your first. Even though every pregnancy is different. Don't get stressed, because that will strain you more if your heart's racing. But definately see your doctor.

I brought this up to my doctor too, the last thing I want is a heart attck while giving birth. He said it is due to the increased blood my body is producing. I would still ask your doctor though.
