Do you mean cooking oil?

I sure wouldn't - it would take forever to dry. It'll probably go rancid as well... pee-yew! Refined artists oils are specially prepared to be of the proper consistency and only drying oils are used... some unrefined oils remain viscous for hundreds of years. Go buy some linseed - it's not all that expensive!

gee, every instinct I have about painting says no....you might want to google oil paints and see what the recipe was for Michaelangelo's paint..or any of the artists of the past who had to make their own paints...We all use linseed oil..maybe they used something more common

It depends really... Where does the oil come from (i.e. Spain, Italy, etc.)?
