My kitten is about 3 months old, and every time i sit, or laydown, and she can get up on my shoulder or my chest, she starts purring loudly and rubs her face in my hair. Sometimes it sounds like she's sucking on it or licking it. She also kneads my shoulder occasionally too. Is this normal?? It's cute, but really, it's really hard to sleep with a cat on your head. My fiance finds this hilarious. I even just henna'd my hair and it smells really bad, but she stil, does it. Why does she do this??

she may not have been weened properly. A lot of cats do this, she sees you as her mother. Some cats grow out of it....others dont.

She is still young and you can teach her not to by pulling her off of you when she starts. It seems cruel, but she will soon learn that you dont appreciate the hickeys.

You can give her a blanket or something to suckle on, but then she may never grow out of it.

She's loving on you! This is normal for cats. My parents used to have a cat that did much the same things. Cats express affection with tactility in very specific ways, ways that are impressed on them when they are a few weeks old. Your cat says she loves you by playing with your hair and kneading your shoulder. You probably won't be able to break her of this habit, so get used to pushing your cat off the bed or sleeping with her on your head.

Often kittens will do this because they miss their mothers. Particularly sucking on your hair! I once knew an adult cat who still sucked on anyone's hair who picked him up and the owners claimed it was because he had been weaned too early.

Sometimes getting a soft, furry stuffed animal for your cat to snuggle can help get her out of your hair!

That's so cute!! She loves you and she treating you like her "mommy cat." It's very normal, especially when they are that little. I had a cat who used to suckle my ears, he grew out of it eventually. As she grows older, she'll have less need for those kitten-mommy cat interactions. Just be happy you are so loved, she'll grow out of it.
