My little sister has really dry skin. She has clear face but her body and legs look really dry even with lotion. She does drink water. Is it genetic? My skin is fine though. Are there any supplements she can take?

Fruit, lots of it. Your skin needs vitamins and minerals. Just keep a good diet and everything will work. After your break a sweat, you should clean off your face with some kind of acne wash. Worst case, you get a pimple if you have the fortitude to do it, take a needle and drive it slowly into the center of the pimple and the hold the skin as low as you can between your index finger and your thumb and roll your thumb forward until the white puss comes out. Immediately use the harshest antiseptic you can get your hands on. I recommend Dettol. It works wonders in a painful kind of way. It's worth it, i have not had a noticeable scar yet.

For the supplement advice, dont take any given here and go to the doctor. Besides that, you can have her eat plenty fresh food, and stay away from junk food, as it will not help with her skin problem. Also, if there is no medical risk (you should clear it with the dcotor anyway), sauna is a good option, a couple of times a week. It leaves my skin smooth! Good luck.

Maybe she should drink more water...that's probably best. She can also use oil instead of lotion on her body--I wouldn't put it on her face because she might break out. For her face she can try a mask. Here is one she might want to try: "Moisturizing Avacodo Mask" - (Prep time 5 minutes, DON'T EAT, bodycare recipe)

2 Tbsp wheat germ or almond oil
1 avocado, peeled and seeded

Mash the avocado in a small bowl. Mix in oil. Smooth over face (avoiding the eye area) and relax for about 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

she might need to eat some organic fruit and veggies vs. the fresh produce crap! also, she needs to buy good lotion and VS is okay for the smell of it but not the hydration. go with something more intense like a cheap drug store brand such as Cetaphil!my sister has really dry skin and it works really good on her! or my fave is L'Occietane which is made with shea butter, an ingredient that locks in moisture and keeps mositure in and keeps your hands and body hydrating! the best thing would be their body lotion or cream which is sort of expensive like $36 for a huge jar with 20% shea butter in it which is really really really good! it is made in France and keeps skin hydrated ASAP! she needs to drink more water like 8 or more glasses a day to keep herself hydrated and to use baby oil when she gets out of the shower since i have friends who have tried it and swear that it makes your skin soft and hydrated!she can take some vitamins or minerals in case she is missing on her fruits of veggies for the day!

Im not sure about supplements or anything but eating/drinking Milk, Cheese and Yoghurt on a regular basis dramatically helps the skin.

water is essential to skin hydration--you can never have enough--also, try adding more foods to your diet that have "good fat" like salmon, avacados, nuts...as for external care--use a sugar scrub to exfoliate your skin every 2-3 days, when you dry off use some baby oil and then use a good lotion over that.

she should exfoliate. yes, keep up with the water. find a facial moisturizer that will actually moisturize. lotions usually have oils and things that really aren't moisturizing, they just kind of soften the skin.
