I have 2 suggestions. First, turnoff your computer (i.e. not shutdown or standby). Once the computer is off, disconnect the power cable from the computer. Wait a couple of seconds and then plug it in again. Restart your computer and see if this solves the problem. If it does not then you can try using Tweak UI. Tweak UI is a powertoy developed by Microsoft and comes as a free download. The download link is (http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/c/a/fca6767b-9ed9-45a6-b352-839afb2a2679/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe)

After installing Tweak UI, launch the program and scroll down to "My Computer." Click the little + sign to expand the section. Click "Drive" and you will see all the drives on your computer. Make sure that Drive D: is checked. If not, check it. Click [Apply] > [O.K.] > Exit Tweak UI. See if this solves the problem. If not, send me an email there are other things you can try.

Click Start, right click My Computer and select manage

Select storage then Disk Management

Scroll down until you find your CD drive

Right click and select Change Drive letter

Select a drive letter that is not being used

This will now be the drive letter of your CD drive

The change is immediate and shouldn't require a re-boot

When you PC starts i to boot you will see a option to go into setup, it will be F12 - F10 or Delete, hit which ever it says to hit, this will take you to the BIOS then you will see your hard drive and you other devices, scroll down onto the drive and hit the part that says automatically detect, once you do that reboot, that should fix the problem, if not you might need a new ribbon going from you motherboard to your drive, or it might be that your drive is just worn out and it is time for a new one,, i hope it is just that you need to fix it in bios

For windows XP(If D: is partition of your hard disk):
go to computer management(control panal>performance and maintaince> administrative tools> computer management)
click on disk management(i.e under storage)
check if there is D: or not. If it is there then right click and open otherwise there will be free space(i.e. your D: has been removed so it is better to create new D:).
TO create partition right click on free space and click on create new partition and follow the instructions

Is Disk drive D: removable CD ROM? It could have been not detected as the connection to it is loose. Is Drive D a removable disk drive? Please be specific. Thanks!
