heres what i found:
Read a history book. Even a Christian history book. It's all there. The dark ages in Latin Europe were ugly and barbaric with almost no literacy throughout its population. Commerce was almost non-existent, education was offered to a few erudite who entered the Church.
Islamic culture was highly advanced and cosmopolitan. They welcomed scholars of all backgrounds, religions and nationalities to study among them. This enabled a small portion of Latin Europeans the chance to be enlightened and was very much responsible for the Renaissance.
The payment they received for their open-mindedness was to have their caliphates dessimated by the Holy Roman empire. The most famous example, of course, is the Inquisition.
and i certainly dont believe that there is one best religion or one true religion.

Society has learned a lot from Islam. When you look deep into the teachings of the Prophet Muhommad (PBUH), everything he said is now followed in our modern day culture.
1. Hadith teach's us not to lean over and reach for food because it is bad manners.
2. It is good to take an object out of the way if it is distracting traffic.
3. Your voice should not be raised.
4. You must love all people and creatures.
I know you said one, but basically, these all fall under the same category: good manners. So see, Islam has taught you a lot. Accept it.

While I disagree that religion does more harm than good, (previous respondent) I believe Islam is far from being the best religion. That does not prevent it having made a contribution to the world. When Islam took over an important part of Western Europe, it was a scientific light in the dark ages. Would you prefer to be counting, adding, substracting, multiplying, etc. with Roman numerals? Of course not. What we use are Arabic numerals. Islam brought that to Europe, and that is why we have such an efficient counting system in the world today. That is just one example.

I'm not a Muslim; i'm an atheist, or in Muslim terms an infidel subject to be killed on sight.
That is just what Islam has brought to the world. Intolerance toward other beliefs, unless those disbelievers become 'dhimmis', or second class citizens in an Islamic dominated society, pay 'jizyah' (a special tax reserved only for non-Muslims), and be humiliated in the paying of that tax. READ THE QURAN!!!
Many dhimmis living in Muslim societies contributed to science and commerce, while Muslims got credited by history for their second class dhimmi discoveries. How many advances, in any field, have Muslims accomplished in the last 300 years??
Look at the s**t hole countries that are mostly Muslim, the poverty of people who will not , or cannot, accept democracy or a free market to work themselves out of their ignorance. Look at Gaza and Iraq, where Muslim militias fight each other, butcher Muslim civilians, and kill American soldiers trying to bring democracy to a country completely ignorant of the democratic process.

Muslisms nowadays are not true muslims, unfortunately. Had they been so, you would have seen how remarkable the contribution is. Study history! See what the contribution of Islam to the world was; when muslims excelled in all branches of science and knowledge, the world was in the DARK AGES; heard of that period in the history of humanity?
It is the practice, not the theory, that is wrong.
Peace.

I'm not a muslim and I have major problems with their religion. HOWEVER. Prior to this rise of sectarian and global violence, Islam went through quite a golden age while Europe was in ruins. During this time, Arab cultures, based on liberal Islam, managed to store and safeguard most of the knowledge that had been in the Library of Alexandria. Without this safehousing of knowledge, all of society might still be well behind where it is.
Give credit where credit is due. And give blame where blame is due.

advanced mathematics.
architecture.
the only two i can think of off hand, but there are more. the reason muslims can have little humour about their religion could be because it's 600 years younger than christianity. in the 1400's christians were just as zealous, if not more so, than muslims are now.
see the crusades, witchfinders, the spanish inquistion. most religions have been there, except buddhism,of course, but they're pretty drippy, if we're being honest

I am not a Moslem, but I can tell you that during the Dark Ages in Europe much knowledge of the ancient world, including Greek Philosophy and Mathematics were lost.
That knowledge was preserved in Moorish Universities, and by the Jesuit scholars of Ireland.
