With all due respect to those who read this, I personally do not believe hitler was evil. The united states did far worst when they annihilated almost all of a civilization, the american indians. Rome back in it's day use to display mutilation at the areana for spectator sport. The vikings were notoriously brutal when they raped and pillaged. I believe that to much emphisis was put on this one period of time, regarding hitler. There is another way to look at it too, economically, and militarily wise, hitler may have been considered a brilliant man. After all, he was voted man of the year in time magazine before he became considered a world threat. The fact is, he took a second rate, defeated nation and made it a world power... at that time. As for the acts commited against the jews, that is a seperate issue. I believe that hitler was an answer to what the majority of germany at the time wanted. I think often timing is everything. I don't beleive it is a mater of was he right or wrong. Not with all the atrocities in history from other nations, (including our own) and the atrocities still going on. I think it is foolish to single out one man, and one period of time. Is making your nation strong good? Yes. Is killing (whomever) good to achieve that ends? You tell me it's still being done.

Hitler had unquestioned control of the National Socialist party. It tok him some time and a final confrontation to get contro put get it he did. There can be no doubt that the aging prsident Hindenburg hoped to use Hitler's popularity with the German people when he made him Chancelor. However, Hitler quickly positioned himself in absolute power when the president died.
Your question is a fair one but any reading of the history of the coming to power in the 3rd Reich clearly shows that while Hitler had some horrible people under him, he himself was quite warped and quite bad. A true evil genius.

Hitler rose to power himself by knowing EXACTLY what the down-trodden people of war-torn Germany wanted to hear.
He's sort of like a reverse Wizard of Oz; he's a VERY good wizard, but a very bad man.

He was absolute tyrant, and feared by all his cronies and subordinates. He was evil personified. Read the introduction to "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" by William Shirer.
