I have just bought a small Victorian mid-terrace house and need to furnish it. Problem is; the front door is so narrow and the largest window (back dining room) is only 90 centimeters across/wide. I think alot of the front window and door space has been reduced because of double glazing ... still, I have looked and looked online and in department stores for a nice, comfortable sofa, not large but at the same time I really don't want something too small and uncomfortable. So, I can't be the only person who has this problem. How do I fit furniture into the house. Most of the sofas I have seen and liked are more than 90 cm (D) I assumer this means depth. When measuring, is that the number I need to be aware of? Can't furniture be brought into the house at an angle? Very frusrating; want to spend my money on something nice but can't seem to! Any help or suggestions would be really appreciated. Thanks, in advance.

You always measure the diagonal width of the sofa to see it will go. You carry it through tilted at 45 degrees or whatever.
Chairs are not such a problem because you can turn them as you enter the doorway.

I just measured mine and its around 90cm so i would get my fairly normal sofa through a 90cm opening.

Hi!

One of my friends had this problem last year.

However, when she went to some of the furniture stores to enquire, they told her that some of the models actually came in two halves.

The reason they told her was that a lot of new houses are being built very small these days, so that the property developers can get more houses built on their plots.

So in order to cater for this market, the sofa makers decided they had to make sofas in two halves.

I wish you the very best of luck, and hope this helps!

You can for sure bring a sofa into the house on it's side. Most furniture stores deliver, so then it would be up to them to get it in. Or you could take your door measurements to the store, and tell them it has to fit. They would be able to tell you

I'm feelin' ya as I had the same problem. Had to go with a loveseat instead of a couch - and two chairs instead.
A lady that moved into the apartment below me had the same problem (natch) and so she solved it by getting sectional furniture...since the pieces were all in ....pieces...they fit in the door. She pushed them together the way she wanted once it was in her apartment. I wish I would have thought of that!

I bought a great 3 seater leather recliner from DFS - I had the same problem because I live in a 2nd floor flat - I chose this one because it came in 3 seperate pieces that were assembled by the delivery men.

You can pull the front door (frame and all) temp. Just take out the molding around the door on the inside and you will see what I mean.
