When I used to train for triathlons, but was still in college, I'd start the day with a light breakfast, of mostly complex carbs. Avoid heavy foods like sausage or anything deep-fried.

Then out for a short spin on my bike (15 mi.) or a swim (a mile). I NEVER did strength training first thing...you should wait 'til your muscles are stretched and warmed-up (by light exercise). The heavier training would come later, after classes.

If you don't like biking or swimming, or if you're not in as good shape (like me, now that I'm older) try fast-walking for 1/2 hour and take your dog...he/she'll love it! If the weather's bad, do some of your favorite calisthenics (Sit-ups, push-ups, lunges, etc). Even 15 minutes of exercise can make a huge difference. The hot shower will feel ten times better after that and you'll be awake, guaranteed!

A shower always works for me. You might also try waking up to music, that helps me too.

Don't laugh, but pinching the earlobe. There is a nerve in there that when stimulated, releases endorphins through your bloodstream and giving you a refreshed awake feeling. Try it.
