From Wikipedia
Pineapples are native to Brazil, Bolivia, Peru and Paraguay.
To grow a Pineapple, cut the top off, allow the top to dry oput and then plant it. The top can take up to three weeks to dry out but when planted, it will take root. The pineapple grows on the central stem of the plant with only one fruit borne on each plant. Every plant produces suckers and these grow in a leaf axil off the parent stem. These suckers subsequently produce a second or "ratoon" crop of fruit. The first and second crops normally constitute the commercial yield of a plant

Here in Trinidad they are cultivated and they grow in the wild They are the strangest of plant, looking more like a cactus than a bush or tree. They grow on the ground and the leaves can get to be 5ft or so.
The pineapple we buy here in the store, we can take the heads off and put them in soil and they start to grow again.

Pineapples were first cultivated by the Guarani Indians of Brazil and Paraguay. They grow on a short stem springing from a low plant.

But seriously... It mostly depending on where you live. If you live in the US there is about a 99% chance that it came from the U.S. State of Hawaii.
In Asia it could be homegrown or from the Philipines. Europe.. do they eat pineapples there?

A lot of them come from Hawaii. I think they grow on small trees or low bushes.
