I think it depends on which parent it is. You know it will be tougher if it is the mom that is a cop.
The job is highly stressful.
My husband and I have a lot of cop friends. Kids can definitely be neglected...especially if the parent is on call a lot. I think it all depends on the particular parent and the department.

Well my buddy down the street lived across from a L.A. Motorcycle cop for ever. He had two daughters.... the older one was a couple years younger than me, and she became pretty darn slutty in high school. Partied, got drunk, don't know about drugs though, never heard about any of that going on with her.
Another guy in High School, his dad was a L.A. county Sheriff. He was decent, football player, he did party and get drunk. Again, don't know much about any drug use, I had a certain few I smoked out with and didn't really pay attention to anyone not in that group on whether or not they did or not. Didn't hear any rumors either.
So... the two kids I knew who had cops for parents.... were pretty much like most kids in High school. They weren't super nerds and did do the party scenes, drinking and sex.

Whats the difference than any other job? Every job carries some sort of risk of coming into harms way.
I am studying for my BS in Criminal Justice and my daughter thinks it really neat.

I HAVE A COUSIN WHO SPENT HIS LIFE IN LAW ENFORCEMENT, HE HAD TWO CHILDREN WHO TURNED OUT GREAT. THEY EXCELLED IN SCHOOL, AND SPENT A LOT OF TIME WITH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES(SPORTS,ETC.) I THINK IT MATURED THEM A LITTLE EARLIER THAN THAN THEIR PEERS, KNOWING THAT DAD PUT HIS LIFE ON THE LINE ON A DAILY BASIS...BUT THAT ISN'T ALL BAD. GOOD LUCK!
