I understand in some states like NJ, you have to be waited on by an attendant and it is illegal to pump your own gas. Gee, remember the old days when you even got your windshield cleaned?

Really? I never heard of that. Here in Wisconsin, you can pump your own. We do have a few full service stations--it's nice once and awhile to go there. They check your oil, wash the windows etc
EDIT:
You had me curious, since I had never heard of this. I found this info--see link below! Thanks -- I love learning about obscure things like this! LOL

Yes, in Ne. you can pump your own gas. As a matter of fact if you go where there is an attendant to do the pumping, the gas prices are higher by about .03 a gal.

two states NJ and Oregon - I think???
But get this.... it's not like people pay more for gas in NJ than you do anywhere else.
Because it's the law, the stations provide the attendants. That's why they don't want to change the law because then the stations would charge "extra" for full serve as they do in other states....
On those cold-azz winter days, I would love it if I didn't have to get out of the car.

I've been all the way across this country more than once. Never encountered a place where you couldn't pump your own gas. Apparently I missed NJ. Can't find one single full serve station anywhere around here any more. Gotta pump my own gas everywhere I go.

Indiana -- Yes, we are allowed to pump our own gas. It is very rare to even find a service station anymore that pumps gas for you. One local one has a "ladies day" where for a couple of hours during the day women can get their gas pumped for them. That's pretty much about it.

I live in NY and I've always pumped my own gas. Only at certain areas did attendants come out to pump it.

I don't know of any stations where I live (San Francisco) that pump it for you unless you're disabled.
Yes, I remember gas being pumped, windshield being cleaned, tire pressure checked, and trading stamps.

Yes, we are allowed in Ohio. Some places make you pay before you pump that way you can't steal gas.
