I'm 18, 5'4, 118 lbs, just joined a gym ,and im doing 20 mins on the stationary bike, and 1 hour of weight lifting on 11 different weight machines, but my sister in law is taking an aerobics class 1hr. three times a week, so im curious, which one is more effective at burning fat, or the quickest?
I know its best if you combine both, but I just paid for the weight lifting.

You need a combination of both, one will not be better than both
Taking aerobic classes will INCREASE your body fat%. You start depleting muscle and you will end up having no muscle to give the "tone" look you are going for. Sure you will be in great cardiovascular shape but be in worse physical shape.
The instructors of the class can run circles around people all day, however, they usually have body fat % levels equivalent to that of somone who is clinically obese (30% bf or higher).
Also, don't do those total body bullshit work outs, break the body parts up into 3-4 days during the week.

Why you could do a study who does better You or Your Sister. That would be a good experiment, and then give us the answer. When you get done with your gym , you could go for the aerobics and your sister could go the gym and take what you just did. Keep exercising that is the important part!

If you are doing the bike and weight training, that is the best combination. You don't need additional aerobics, the bike is your aerobic workout.
I do yoga every day and weight training every other day - I am a bit older than you;-)
Weight training is extremely important as a fat burning activity. Here is a great article that explains it: http://www.cnn.com/HEALTH/diet.fitness/9907/14/workout.times/index.html

Given time, you will totally crush her by lifting weights.
Weights = long term gain.
Cardio = short term gain.
Adding muscle turns your body into a fat-burning machine 24 hours a day. Cardio burns fat only while you are actually performing cardio. If you want to burn fat while you watch tv, lift weights!!!

I'd do both if I was you. Im training during this off-season for golf, so I've come up with a great workout schedule. I workout on Monday(Chest and Triceps), Wednesday(Back and Biceps) and Friday(Shoulders and Legs) on those days I run a couple of miles. On Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday-I swim and do yoga and I've seen improvement in the past two months.

The combination is best, but aerobics main function is to burn fat. Fat is burned from muscle as it develops, so it's a slower process.
