I know children are picky eaters but my son is four and still will not touch vegetables OR fruit! He is very stubborn. I do make make banana or carrot muffins for him and hide veggies in spaghetti sauce. Does any one have any suggestions on this? I am getting very frustrated with this. My husband and I and our two year old are always eating them, so the leading by example thing is not working either! Help!

You are doing just fine you are sneaking in some of what he is missing. Also, I suggest that you get hime to take vitamins with minerals, to make sure that he is not deficient in any of them.
Modern vegetables have been selectd (bred) for long shelf life. Along the way they paid no attention to taste, odor, nor nutrition. Soooo, many "modern" vegetables are practically tasteless,. The nutritien content of vegetables was recently determined, by the U.S. dept of Agriculture to be half the level of that of 1970.
Organic vegetables may help, as well as locally grown produce bought in markets.
Your son's tastes will broaden given time.
Have you tried some heavy seasoning on the food? It is counterintuitive but some children develop a fondness for certain strong tasting food and also condiments.. It is worth a try.
But make sure you inform your child before serving it or you will lose all credibility for a long time. (kraft dinner has a pronounced strong taste for cheese, as almost as pronounced as blue cheese.) But many children love it. Go figure.
Please do not make mealtimes a battle ground. It is a futile and aggravating, exercise for all participants anbd a parent will not win.
My late mother said this sage thought,;
"No child ever starved in a house full of food". Yoiur children are probably safe. L.O.L.
Goofd luck.
Doc. Dan.
I love children. They are all wonderful. But their "shelf life" is so short. They grow up so fast & follow their own lives.
The ingrates!
Enjoy them for the little time we have them.

His being so picky is a phase and will eventually resolve itself. If you are concerned that he is not getting the nutrition he needs then use a multivitamin supplement. The more you make an issue of this the more stubborn he will become but continue yo lead by example.

Have you seen this machine called the Jack Lane Juicer. You

put whole fresh fruit and vegetables in there. And keep it cold in

the refigerator your son or daughter will want to drink that every

morning instead of chips or candy. The give your son or

daughter the veggies at dinnertime they will eat them too. Or at

snacktime during homework or watching they're favorite show.

My mom said I had the same problem...so she made "elephant" carrots to pay and eat with "mousy" peanuts or other nuts to get me to eat. She also made "Octopus" and "Monkey" bananas with rice pudding or vanilla pudding. I hope this helps you. Because I still eat "Monkey" Bananas. Children are picky eaters but not choosers on their meals. One thing that I can assure you is that he will play first and then eat. It's worth a try and both of you will have fun.

Limit or eliminate completely sugary foods and drinks. When he gets used to normal food, he'll appreciate the sweetness of fruit.
With the veggies, I'd continue to put a small amount on his plate every day. Eventually he'll get curious and eat it. Children and adults often like things like food because of familiarity--just get him used to having fruits and veggies around and he'll eat it eventually.

Try those ant on a log things. Celery raisins and peanut butter. I use to wok at a day care and the kids love them. Also try to make fun faces with them or make a jello fruit salad too
