Some people are willing to destroy the truth if it threatens their belief system.

Fundementalism is all about believing the Bible exactly as it is written, no matter how silly, what evidence indicates otherwise, or how outdated it might be.
That flies right against everything science is about. In science, if an idea is bad it gets thrown away (after some discussion).
Evolution is a big battlegroud because the Fundementalists want the version in Genisis (actually there are two creation stories in Genisis, but the "fundies rarely read their own book) and the scientists back the accepted view of the creation of life for the last hundred years.

Because people used to be stupid enough to blindly follow "The Church" and it was a good ol time of burnings, hangings, torture, and basic evil in the name of "God".

Since then people have learned more and no longer accept the word of a bunch of dudes wearing big hats as holy pure truth so that now "The Church" cannot even rape one little boy without being held accountable so an attack has been launched the regress humanity back to the "good ol days" where a priest could rape anyone he wanted without fear of society since they were above all laws and considered gods.

Take this with a grain of salt since there are quite a lot of christian fundamentalists who believe and further science as a noble goal...just like there are horrible scientists who push into areas we should leave alone until we understand them better.

It just seems like the most public face is that Christianity wants people to follow rules made by people who "spoke" to God thousands of years ago while making it ok to burn me alive if I said I spoke to God yesterday.

Basic fact is that science is about questioning everything and forcing people to provide proof of their claims while religion is about accepting without any questions and not having to provide any proof at all....such different systems are not destined to get along well.

**I feel I need to point out...Again...for the billionth time....to opponents of evolution (since of course science is always wrong because of evolution right?) that it has been tested and validated enought to be accepted as common fact but that science has NEVER said it is a scientific LAW and freely says there are problems with the theory. Accepted as common fact since it is, by a huge margin, the best idea we have right now. If you don't believe in it then fione but before you critizise can you please LEARN something about it..sheesh.

The Question Man:: Because like most people who don't put anything into context, the word THEORY in science terms is very different than the layman's theory. Here is the difference...to you and other lay people a theory is an idea or belief. In scientific technical terms a theory is a hypothesis (hypothesis=layman's theory) that has been tested and validated many times. This validation gives the scientic theory a lot more weight then what you would call a theory since your theory is that "God did it" and let it go at that

Because their dogma runs head-on into the discoveries of science. Contrary to the Christian view, science is not about "disproving God", it's about discovering facts and learning about the natural world. The fundies just can't handle it when the evidence of the natural world clashes with their dearly-held superstitions.

There is no international conspiracy to force-feed lies to people...science and its results can be tested by anyone. Unlike religious beliefs, which do depend a great deal on charisma and storytelling. Yes, there have been scientific frauds...but in all cases it was other scientists who uncovered the frauds for what they were. There have been far more pious frauds, and when they get uncovered no one seems to want to believe it.

A true Christian, does not want to subvert science. We only wish to point out that not all of science is accurate. Much of it is, and much is not. God tells us this in scripture. Much of science cannot truly by proved, but in their eyes they think it can. If science opposes God, then it is a false science and should be rejected. But of course, if you dont believe in the Bible, you wont agree with that statement. You either believe it or you dont.
For any Christian to make another person think all science is wrong would be a terrible error. God wants us growing and learning all the time, and science CAN be a great thing, leading to cures to disease and all kinds of things. But, anything that is opposed to what God tells us is to be instantly rejected, and not even looked at. Example. God says it is a sin to be homosexual, be it men with men or women with women, goes against the laws of God and nature. Yes, there are animals that will show this behavior, but they surely arent communicating with God. Many kill innocent peple too, so what? They dont have souls. come on now. God is clear that being gay is an abomination with Him, and unless a person turn away from it, they will be lost to hell,, something I surely wouldnt wish on anyone. But. there are many more sins than being a homosexual. showing hate to someone and claiming to be Christian is also a sin. WE love the sinner but hate the sin because we love them like God loves them, and dont want them to be lost. We are not trying to subver science, only hoping to get people to know the differfence between truth and lies. Scies that does not oppose God.. go for it. Science that opposes God is wrong, and should be called just that..

Why do Science fundamentalist's want to subvert Christians?

2006-10-25 14:30:03 · answer #6 · answered by Either/Or 2 · 0 2

Yes, they want schools to teach religion. They wish to purge real science from schools by using the 'wedge' of Intelligent Design. They feel that the majority will at least have an 'equal time' attitude towards I.D. which will further their cause of discrediting, evolution, geology, astronomy, biology and every branch of science which would or might conflict with creationism.
School systems need to persuade the I.D. proponents that to introduce their 'science' is opening the door for other systems including the FSMism.

I think science and religious faith can and do co-exist. Some scientist like to believe in the big-bang theory, but maybe a creator created the big bang. There are many unanswered questions surrounding our earth and universe that science has yet to prove. Likewise, I question the bible on the creation of the earth and universe. Some say a day in the bible is equivalent to 1000 years. So, who knows.....

Because they were manipulated by other Biblical fundamentalists so that they would want to subvert EVERYTHING that has nothing to do with the bible....

I'm tempted to say it's because they believe *in* God - or perhaps more accurately a concept of God that their traditions have defined - but they don't really BELIEVE God. They don't believe half of what the Bible says, and, therefore, they don't believe that God is big enough to stand tall under the scrutiny of man's microscope because their traditions have reduced Him to nothing more than an icon. Perhaps it's because they couldn't stand up under the scrutinty themselves, so they have reduced God to being as limited as they are - which is a sad, sorry place to live if you ask me. But then, I notice that a lot of people adhering to Christianity more out of tradition than by revelation aren't asking me. Go figure.

Christians feel attacked by Science because it offers alternate explanations for Creation.
Scientists are also threatened by religion.
The truth is often found between the extremes.
