I'm wondering what works the best before I buy some. Advil? Alleve? Doans? What do you reccommend?

Ibuprofen 600 mg by mouth every 6-8 hours. Alternate with tylenol for added effectiveness.

Hi Crystal, there are a lot of good answers here, but I have a suggestion. It might be in your best interest to see a chiropractor, and here's why. Chiropractic is founded in the belief that the Central Nervous System (brain, spinal cord, and nerves) controls EVERY function of our bodies, and when the vertebrae are misaligned (aka subluxated), they can easily pinch the nerves that run out between them. A pinched nerve cannot properly send signals throughout the body, and this may cause pain, numbness/tingling, or any type of negative malfunction in that nerve's corresponding body part. Since your pain started with a car accident, it wouldn't be unreasonable to think that the accident could have done something to your spine, like given you a herniated disk or vertebral fracture (though I doubt the latter). So you should get an X-ray, or even better an MRI. You can have a medical doctor rule out anything serious, but if your MD can only prescribe medication or suggests surgery for a herniated disk, try a chiropractor first. Chiropractic is a safe, non-invasive way to correct spinal misalignment without the use of drugs. Drugs only mask the symptom (i.e. pain) but do nothing to correct the problem. No matter what you decide to do, I sincerely wish you the best of luck and hope you get better!

I broke my tailbone in my mid-20's. Now I'm in my mid 50's and suffer from lower back problems. I use the pain patch (Walmart has a good generic) that is similar to ThemaCare.

If you take Alleve, be sure you take food with it. It caused me stomach upset on an empty stomach.

I also found out, that after I started exercising my stomach muscles, the pain in my lower back diminished. Good luck.

If you can get some Robaxacet from Canada - IT WORKS! Relaxes the muscles which allows the injury to heal because they aren't being stressed. Over-the-counter in Canada but haven't seen it in The States.

Instead of covering up the symptoms, cure the pain. Check with a local Chiropractor, end the pain, once and for ever.

I've used them all with varied success, sometimes Doan's works, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes any of them will work and sometimes none of them will. I usually depend on my old fall back, an ice pack for twenty minutes to numb where it hurts and then rest.
