Sure. There are many good times to lie. Yes, it is being a false witness, but that's not a bad thing. Of course, there are times that are more appropriate and less appropriate for lying.
You have a brain. You know the pros and cons of lying. Ultimately, it's your character by which people judge you. Don't default to what people try to spoon-feed you from old books.

Here's the best example: someone at work asks you what you think of the lovely new dress she bought yesterday. As far as you're concerned she looks like a rancid old prostitute in it. Do you tell her or do you lie? I'd always lie because the truth would be hurtful and it would just be my opinion and I could be wrong, or the majority of other people could find her beautiful in that dress. Hurting someone's feelings and making them miserable for the sake of the truth is not worth it and the good deed would be to lie. Not all lies are bad, and sparing someone's feelings surely is not a bad thing?

the ten commandments were written as guidelines and should be followed with the best intent. Nothing is black and white in life or in the dealings of life. As a general rule truth is most always best. However, with saying that I need to point out that the intent of the heart and the motives is what is judged. As for your friend this is not a case of lying just because you didn't go out of your way to tell you don't like. As for bearing false witness........your way off on understanding what that means.

Good question, but lying to someone should only be done as a last resort, not 1st.
You don't have to tell this person anything regarding your feelings toward her, just let your actions speak for you.
Furthermore, you can protect her feelings by respecting her instead of lying to her, since we are all called to do that to our neighbors, whether we like them or not.
As a Christian, I believe that loving someone doesn't necessarily include liking them, since Jesus told us to love even our enemies.

My handle that's this...mendacity is undesirable using fact it slanders somebody, falsely accuses, etc. It creates harm to a distinctive. despite the fact that, the "white lie" that we would desire to do to get via in society is okay considering that's certainly helping and not hurting. God hates it as quickly as we injury one yet another. Telling him his cakes are marvelous is an outstanding component.

Telling her the truth can't possibly bring about any good. Lie to spare her feelings. Lie to spare anyone's feelings. What is there to gain by hurting another?

It is work, you do not need to be spreading your personal attitudes (people you don't like) at work. It is totally unprofessional. You might find the supervisors don't like you if you are like that !
You also do not need to feign being friendly
What you DO need to do is behave with courtesy and be professional. Save that left over high school drama for your own living room.

If you don't like her, you don't like her. You don't have to pretend you like her. Why can't you just be civil to her at work? When you talk to her keep it strictly work related. You need to get over why you don't like her. I think hating someone for no good reason is worse than being nice to her because you have to work together.

Yes, that would be fine. I have had to act like I like someone many times just to make things go smoothly at work. I do that everytime I go to my mom's house. Her husband is a jerk, but if I don't give him a hug it will look bad. yuck
