Shame on you for being illegal. But I can speak Pig Latin and a lil bit of Spanish! They might be in need of bilingual officers, but they will hire people that don't. I know in Denver they give you an incentive for being bilingual

One might indeed ponder this question and also ask the question...why arent all residents both permanent and otherwise including citizens and non citizens learning the common language of the country they reside in?(English)

How many languages are you demanding that Law Enforcement learn? Just your second language or maybe Mandarin or French? How about innuit? Or Basque?

We have a common language nation wide(English). If spanish was the common language we would all have to learn it. Its not....so Law Enforcement speak English. Requiring Officers to know spanish causes unfair hiring practices. Then you make a situation that requires civil service test takers to know another language other than the common one to get a govt job.

Why would that make sense?

Dear scorpion or lobster or whatever alacran is,

I hate that the USA is the only country where you are not required to speak more than one language. It is sad that the biggest melting pot in the world is monolingual. Sad and Shameful. My husband is from the Netherlands and he is fluent in 5 languages. {he's legal, by the way,}. I was born and raised here and I don't speak any fluent language other than american English. It's a disgrace.

Why not learn English. That is the problem -- people immigrating to the US used to be proud to learn English. Now they expect us to speak their language. Why not tell everyone in Mexico to speak English or everyone in France to speak English and not their native language (see how far you get).

I have no problem with legal immigration and our open arms policy towards helping people out. I do think that all potential citizens and permanent resident aliens need to be required to at least speak some English.

Because we live in the United States where we generally speak English and if you come here, you in turn should learn the language not we Americans learn yours; After-all; you all came to our country, we didn't go to yours.

America is the most illiterate country in the world, where children in school take fewer classes and learn only one language.
