I am a single mom, and work full time. I love to take walks only I have to take my son with me. I walk for an hour 4-5 times a week and have lost lots of weight doing it. But with it getting colder, I am nervous that I am going to slack off and not walk as much. (Same thing happens when it's really hot in summer). I tried the mall thing, but have you ever tried walking the mall near Christmas time, it's not very easy to walk 3.5 mph? I usually go to a park or around the nieghborhood where once you walk so far, the only way to get back is by walking. I already have noticed that my motivation is decreasing because it's so cold, and it's only October. How do I calm my anxiety? Is it bad for me to take my son on outdoor walks when it's in the 40's?

You can generally go into a mall before the stores open i've been in the mall before anything is open and see "mall walkers" you might be able to find a gym with an indoor track. I grew up in Alaska I was always outdoors in the winter. Just make sure he has a jacket on and doesn't get cold. Good luck

I'm not sure where you live, but if the coldest it gets is 40 degress (Farinheit i imagine), I would say just make sure you put warm clothes on him, a hat and bring a scarf for the face if there is a breeze, but usually in cool weather you warm up quick cause of the walking. I'm also assuming he will be in a stoller?

well it's cold and i have a fact which will motivate you-

IN THE COLD, YOUR BODY BURNS MORE NUMBER OF CALORIES DURING THE SAME ACTIVITY, JUST TO KEEP YOUR BODY TEMPERATURE UPTO MARK. so if u are walking in the winters, you are actually burning more calories!
why don't you join a gym with your son for the winters? they most probably will provide heating.
by the way, i think it's commendable that you are putting your son in the great habit of getting daily exercise. kudos!

Its ok to take your son, but keep his face bundled at all times. He could catch frost bite on the delicate areas of the facial skin if not. Hmmm... You could invest in a tread mill... Put one on layaway somewhere... this way your son could play in the house and you could walk too. Good luck and congrats on losing weights. Its good to hear positive stories!

Maybe a local community health/excercise facility might be your answer for cold wintertime months. Many have childcare available while you are exercising.

The exercise is good for your son. The forty degree temps. shouldn't be to bad if he is wearing appropriate clothing - hat, gloves, jacket.

walks are definetly not bad but find other exercises inside such as pilates or go to a mall and walk around
just because it is winter does not mean exercise is out go have fun their are also plenty of exercise shows that are fun as well
