I do not think the dirt is actually in your nails,
rather the dirt is UNDER your nails. There are various reasons why dirt gets under your nails.

Dirt doesn't get into your nails, it gets under them.

arrgghhhhh
I clean my nails all the time. My husband is a mechanic and has to use bleach sometimes because of grease.
