Yes, very true...

“I have come to the conclusion that whether or not a person is a religious believer does not matter. Far more important is that they be a good human being”

Either you are religious or fanatic in faith. If you are religious then you are already a good human being. The fanatics are often mistaken to be the religious model, like many western think of ossama as the muslims leader but he has nothing islamic as all his actions or provocations are unislamic.

It is surely better to be a good human being than a fanatic or deep fanatic, but it is the same level as compared to a religious. Religiousness reflects on goodness of the believer not the negative side.

Truth Seeker,
In God's eyes, there are no "Good Humans." We are all trespassing in sins. We can't see that at times because we know no other way. Be good to other people, sure. That's a good thing to be. But when it comes to truth, honor it, be dedicated to it. Since you seem to be all over the map on your religious journey, Truth Seeker, let me show you a few things to qualify my answer with.

Proverbs 20:9 Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
Coupled with:
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

We can convince ourselves that we are good. And we can point to someone and say, "That is a good person." But how does the Bible present this idea?

Mark 10:18 . . . . .there is none good but one, that is, God.

And so the wisdom that Christians carry, and irritate so many with, is it to irritate, some of them I would agree, but in the whole scheme of things, if Christianity is the only way to God as Jesus said that it was, then these irritating words, would it be better if we found less irritating ways to say them? Or would it be better to just let them out, so that people won't be offended?
Again I turn to the scriptures for guidance on that:
Proverbs 1:2 To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;
3 To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
4 To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.
5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.
It is by God that we present His word to be an instrument to Him, that the ones He calls may respond. The others, they are not words of life, but of death.

I am saved and a Christian, and religion has nothing to do with it. God didn't make religions, people made religions. All God wants is for every human being on earth to have faith and believe in him. Love him. what is your definition of a good human being? is anyone in the world really a good human being? Some of us that care, try, but no one is perfect. Others who don't care, are the reason the world is how it is. Murderers, Rapists, Child Milesters, Robbers, etc.........I could do that all day long, Need to be punished. And the Government, us citizens aught to be punished for tolerating it. A Good Human Being? Are you serious? Do you think being a good human being is all that it takes??? If so, you need God bad!!!!!! Not trying to preach, just stating facts. Religion is just religion. I am Missionary Baptist and I still have fun, I can hang out with anyone, I drink occasionally, and Missionary Baptists majority believe it is a sin to drink. Jesus turned water into wine and drank with the diciples. It's not a sin to drink, it's a sin to over indulge yourself and act a fool. I smoke cigarettes and that is a sin....but no one is perfect. Over-eating is a sin, yet more that 70% of the worlds population is over weight. People sin, and we will all be held accountable for our own actions and mistakes in the end. There is no Good Human Being. I was raised Baptist and will always be Baptist, yet every saved person knows, in the end religion isn't important. There are saved Catholics, saved Assembly of God, saved Presbytarian's, saved Penicostal, All that matters in the end is that if your saved and believe in Christ as your personal savor, you will go to heaven....Being saved is all it comes down to. ARE YOU SAVED????

It is better to be a good human being that it is to be religious. Religion has a tendency to create close minded people and it has the ability to trap people. I do not have religion but i will feed the needy, speak to the man that no one speaks to because he stinks. But I can not count how many people treated me like I was nothing just because I wasn't Christian. What makes them so much better than me? They are judging and I am not.

I will not participate in one religion because if I choose one it would segregate me from the rest of the world. I care about all people. Unfortunately, I feel the world does not like me because I have not chosen their group. This is not good treatment. In realising that, how can we even say religion makes a good person. I have been pushed away from God by religious leaders, judged by men not worthy to judge. I hope for GOOD HUMANS.

You cannot be a religious person without being a good human. Religion is not some rituals to perform in a mosque or church. It is a way of living. If your religion does not turn you into a better human being, then you are not really religious.

In Islam, even all the rituals (prayer, fasting, zakat, etc) are set so that they purify the heart from its diseases so that we become better people.

When you meet a muslim who is not a good human being with good morals, you can be pretty sure that they perform their rituals just like physical actions but their souls are still contaminated.

May Allah have mercy on us all.

My long search and experience has taught me that to be deeply religious is self limiting. It binds you to a set of beliefs and values and, therefore, has a tendancy to stiffle personal spiritual growth. I don't have a problem with that, it suits some people because that is, I believe, as far as they are able to go at that time. My experience is that deeply religious does not, necessary equal being a good human being

Not at all.

"A good human being" is so non-specific as to be woefully open to interpretation. Religion is far more specific - no matter what culture you are a part of, no matter how society defines "a good human being," religious standard remains.

Counting on base human society to produce moral individuals is like asking a known sexual predator to babysit your children.

Bad idea.

I am not a religious person. I do have a relationship with Jesus Christ because He took my sins to the cross and gave me the opportunity to "know" God through His sacrifice. I try to be a "good person," I think most people do, however, whether or not I am a "good person" has no bearing on whether or not Jesus loves me. He died for me when I did not know Him. It is because of Him that I can aspire to be and do the right things but if I make a mistake, He still loves me. I still have eternal life with Him. There are no "conditions" to having a relationship w/Him - He loves you, me, everyone unconditionally - it's a free gift He gave, but it is up to YOU, whether or not You choose to believe. It's very simple. I think the reason people don't understand it is because there are no "strings," and people naturally look for "strings." You can live your life trying to be a "good person" but without Jesus Christ, it will get you nowhere. well, it will get you somewhere, but I'm not sure you want to be there.
