On the system used for freeview at present, there isn't enough bandwidth for HDTV (It's pretty useless for standard definition!). ITV are due to start experimenting with HDTV broadcasts on channel 501, but there's no news on how poor old Joe public can join in. A standard freeview box won't decode it.

I'm sure technology will move on and they'll find a way of squeezing HDTV into a freeview slot. By that time, they'll have come up with some other idea for parting us from our money.

HD will become the standard eventually,its just a matter of time.
