Well that's just because you haven't asked questions to the right people. You wouldn't ask a Chevy dealer about a Ford would you? So you shouldn't be asking questions about a faith to people that are not of that faith. Lucky for you, I am.

To sort of clear up your question... or er, statement... I had a hard time understanding tithing at first. I've grown up thinking all churches are corrupt. But the LDS church is so different. The money does go to the church. It buys food for my neighbors who cannot afford groceries. It goes toward building new meeting houses and temples. It also goes toward relief funds. Thousands of dollars that LDS members gave last year went to help people in New Orleans after the floods. In fact, the LDS church was there before anyone else... including the Red Cross.
Tithing is also mentioned, not only in the Book of Mormon, but in the Holy Bible. God asks that we give 10% (a tithe) of our income to the church to help those in need. It is also a test of our faith. I've found that nothing but blessings have been poured down upon me when I pay my tithing.
Our church does not have paid clergy. All Bishops and other Bishopric members are volunteer.
So look into it a bit more. You'll find you may understand it better if you go to the correct sourse for answers. Hope this helps.

10% tithe reaches back to bible days...you must not believe in the bible either...
The most ridiculous part of being a Mormon is the constant bashing by people we must endure all the while trying to live the best life we can.
We pay tithes, keep the commandments, perform temple ordinances, pay fast offerings, and many other things because we are obedient and want to follow Christ's teachings.
"No mean to bash" - hmmmm....
*******AND for ChooseReality - Our garments ARE promised to be a shield and protection, spiritually and physically, IF we are worthily wearing them. I have seen the blessings personally! Does it mean no physical harm will EVER come upon someone? Not necessarily, maybe it was just that family's time to go back where they came from. You just don't know. All we who wear them can do is have faith that we are doing what the Lord wants and live the best we can.

The false prophecies, the lack of evidence of the veracity of the faith and the syncretism with Masonry all top out over giving 10% to the church.

The most ridiculous part of being Mormon is trying to deal with narrow minded people, perhaps not too unlike yourself, who find our religion so ridiculous. For me, this feeling is accentuated when said narrow minded people accept, for truth, things about us that appear even more absurd, or when they criticize biblical teachings like Tithing, that all christian churches should be practicing.

While there are hundreds of ridiculous things in the mormon religion, tithing is not one of them. Ten percent of your salary should be given to God -- it states that right in the Bible. No matter what church you go to, if you believe in the Bible, you should tithe.
I think polygamy is ridiculous and the fact that they think they need to wear special underwear to get into heaven is downright hillarious. They have to be retarded.

How about those "garments?" The holy underwear that's supposed to protect them. The stories of their successes are some of the best comedy ever written. I read once where the house of a Mormon burnt down around them and killed them. Their exposed limbs were severely charred but where the garments were covering them their flesh was miraculously untouched! LOL That's protection baby... you die, but the skin beneath your magic undies is just fine.

i highly disagree with that. everything about "being" a Mormon is a guideline. granted, if you don't follow them, you don't get the blessings. but if you believe in what you practice, then tithing and everything else wouldn't be a burden, or ridiculous.

The entire faith is. I have several articles on them on my webpage.
The most evident thing proving them false is the fact that there is NO archeological proof of any of the tribes or cities they claim in their history. NOTHING. There are ruins of cities and tribes much older than them, but nothing of theirs. Even the great battle they claim to have happened where millions died. Not a single bone, piece of armour, anything.

Why would I concern myself with finding the 'most ridiculous' part of a belief? This is not my faith and I do not concern myself with finding flaws with it.
Peace.

The story of how Joseph Smith found golden plates with The Book of Mormon written on them. No, the polygamous laws that are so obviously designed by horny men. No, baptism of the dead. No, the three levels of heaven. No, the fact that they believe that you can become a god after death. All of it really.
