Whatever you would normally eat .. preferably a good, healthy, balanced diet. Try to avoid alocohol although the odd glass won't do any harm. Also try to avoid any food that is too spicy. Remember, anything that may upset an adult's stomach would upset a baby's all the more.

"Ideally, mothers of nursing babies should eat a balanced, varied diet including fresh fruits and vegetables. It is important to eat foods from all the food groups, as well as continuing to take your prenatal vitamins. Include fruits, vegetables, breads, cereals, and protein-rich foods as much as possible.

When breast-feeding, your calorie intake should not fall below 1800 calories per day. Don't rely on junk foods for your calories. Follow a nutritious diet: a diet low in fat, nutrient-dense (i.e., full of vitamins and minerals) and high in fiber. The two biggest mistakes you can make is (a) Start eating junk food, or (b) Go on a crash diet. Either action is guaranteed to make you fat and unhealthy."

You also want to eat foods that are high in calcium, and be sure to drink plenty of water.

However, you should stay away from alcohol while nursing, or drink it very sparingly. Basically, you should eat the same way you did when you were pregnant. Nursing mothers need about 500 extra (quality) calories per day.

Most everything that is healthy for you will be healthy for your baby. Avoid very spicy foods. If you are taking a prescribed or OTC medication on a daily basis, check with your physician as to whether it is safe while breastfeeding. Keep up your fluid intake for adequate lactation. I would advise you to avoid alcohol of any kind at any time until your child is off breastfeeding and on solids. If you prefer to drink, consider a switch to bottle feeds.

Eat and drink anything that you want your baby to eat and drink. You can have one beer a week or so and if you pump after the beer, your milk should be good for the baby. If the baby gets fussy, look at your diet to see if you are eating something spicy, but other than that, just eat healthy.

best and only thing you hsould drink is water, milk, juices. Not at all caffeine, considering caffeine is a diuretic, and you want to produce milk with the fluid you drink, not urinate it. Eat as healthy as you can, but fat is good for baby's brain development, so if drinking milk, drink only whole milk.
