The date you and other people are thinking about (and some people panicking about) is February 18, 2009. However what will happen on this day is that all over the air analog signals will stop, and all over the air signals must be digital. This will affect the very small number of people who don't have either cable or satellite and still get their TV through an antenna. For everyone else, this day doesn't matter and will have no affect on you. As for a switch to having all TV be HDTV, that date has not been set, is not in the planning stages of being set, and most likely never will be set. HDTV will be phased in just like color TV was, but there will not be one set date in which everyone has to throw away their old standard definition TVs. Hope that cleared things up.

confident, you will ought to purchase a converter. i'm uncertain how lots they are going to be, yet i be responsive to that the government would be subsidizing this fee with a rebate, when you consider that they're forcing the crossover to HD. fairly, nevertheless you should merely get an HDTV... they're getting so low priced now, and you are going to adore it as quickly as you have it! the version is great!

No...it's 2009...they have to give some time because the HDTVs have to come down in price so that anyone who wants one can afford one, before they stop broadcasting analog TV.
