<> Sweetheart, you're an idiot if you think that pride equals racism. There's a big difference between taking pride in something and being PRIDEFUL. I'm proud of being an educated woman, but that doesn't mean I think I'm better than an uneducated woman, or even an educated man. It just means I'm proud of me, and of what makes me special (or rather what I feel makes me special). Pride is a very personal thing.

If you are prideful, then you take your pride to an extreme, causing harm to yourself and/or others. That's where the whole "White Power" thing comes in. Or the Black Panthers, for example.

Also, with your whole addition that "Being proud means that you think you're better than everyone" negates your entire question. You compare black/latino pride to racism, but denounce those who call white pride racism. Get your argument straight before you start trying to tell us how dumb we are, sweetheart.

Any person who believes that they are better than anyone else based only on race is a racist. That is the definition of racism. Racism doesn't always come from white people (although we certainly have had a corner on the market for a long time!).

However, sometimes it seems that anytime a race is proud of their heritage, the other races accuse them of raising themselves above everyone else.

Race is such a sensitive subject that people often jump to conclusions when they're not warranted. For example, if I say that I'm proud of my Anglo heritage, some people would feel uncomfortable because they assume I'm saying that my race is better than any other. And often, when a Hispanic (like my Cuban husband) or an African American says that they are proud of their heritage, some white people feel uncomfortable.

I guess the reason that white people get caught on this more than other races is because there has been a long history of "White Pride" being equated with racism... just like the confederate flag. While the flag in itself is not racist, it has a bad connotation. Same thing with white pride. It has a bad connotation.

I would just try and avoid the race issue altogether. You're not going to win, because while you can change someone's mind, you can't change their race.

You can be. BUT why will you never call yourself Latino? You can be proud of both. Do your parents or grandparents speak Spanish? Whether you like it or not YOU ARE LATINO. Latinos can be white, black, and everything in between. A lot of Europeans migrated to Cuba after the Holocaust. I've met a lot of Cubans (living in South Florida) who I would have never known were Cuban until they told me. Jewish Cubans "Jewbans", Cubans with blond hair and blue eyes, and Cubans that looked like they just arrived from Kenya and they were all proud to be Cuban too. No one is saying you can't be proud to be white, but I think you have some issues to deal with. Be happy with who you are, because if anything it makes you a more interesting person.

Well im white and I know that the system in America is set up to ultimately favor the whites while pitying the hispanics and blacks. So im glad every day I was born white at least being a white US citizen. Im sure it would be different if I were born in a country where race wasnt such an issue.

I think people are trying to get a rise out of others by acting that way. I am white and pretty grateful to be so. The reality of this world is a mess. People are more concerned with creating a problem or pointing out a problem than they are with solving it. When we finally all grow up then maybe we can focus on more than race and who is better than whom. The reverse "Adolphism" that many races are pulling is buying into the lie that people of one color are better than another. It needs to stop. People are people nothing more nothing less.

Being proud or your race is just stupid. How can you be proud of something that isn't an accomplishment? Nobody had anything to do with what race they were born into. There are good people and bad people in every race on the planet. There is only one race as far as I'm concerned and that's HUMAN!

They enjoy a double standard . Whites are expected to not stand up for their rights. Whites built America. We bought a lot of it .We didn't take it all from the Native's and what was built up by slaves was destroyed during the civil war. So whites should be proud . We built the strongest nation in the world and we should not hand it over to Illegal minorities.

It is unreal....but live in Germany for a while and see what happens to a German when mentioning Hitler and the Nazis- it doesn't matter that they weren't even alive back then- it is still used against them to this day! We Americans will never live down slavery and "white supremacy" and it will always be used against us. And as long as this is true, we will never be able to say "white pride" the way "they" can say "brown/black/Samoan (etc) pride".

How does being proud of who you are and where you come from constitute thinking you're better than anyone? I am very proud of being Mexican American. I was born here to Mexican parent, whom btw are American citizens but Im just as proud of my Mexican heritage as I am of my American heritage and try to instill that in my children as well, but at no point have I ever thought that one is better than the other or that Im better than anyone else, I do however consider myself lucky to be part of both and to be able to partake of both cultures. If that for whatever reason makes you mad, or anyone else for that matter (you know who you are) or you have a problem with it then too bad for you. I am who I am and what I am, yet for as mad as you may get about it you and I have the exact same rights here regardless of the color of our skin.

Actually you're racist by grouping people into a certain catagory. You know there probably are a large majority of blacks or latinos that believe everyone is equal. The question is, do you think you're better by judging them on how 'wrong' it is to judge others? Look to correct yourself before you try to correct others.
