Try giving him Motrin and Tylenol. Give him a dose of Motrin and then 4 hours later give him a dose of Tylenol. Then, 4 hours later give him another dose of Motrin. If you keep up this dosing, it should help his fever.
Try giving him luke warm baths. I would give him a couple a day. Not only will this help cool his body, it will make him more comfortable as it washes all the sweat off.
If the temperature spikes up to 104 or higher and you cannot get it to go back down, THEN would be the time to take him into the ER.
Just make sure that even if he does not eat, that he is getting plenty of fluids (Fruit pops, juice, water, pedialite). If he is not making tears, his mouth get dry and his tongue is not "moist and shiny", and he is not making as many wet diapers, then he is getting dehydrated. If he gets dehydrated, then you might also want to bring him into the ER.

Little ones can run much higher temperatures than adults.
The temperature of 101.4 is Not high. Once my daughter woke up with a 104.2 temp and the pediatrician had me bring her straight in, she had a ear infection.
Wipe the baby down with cool not cold damp cloths.
Give some Tylenol liquid to help and plenty of fluids.
Is he or she teething? That sounds like a teething temp.
Is the baby taking fluids and eating? It sounds like some sort of a bug. How about bowels, what do they look like, are they loose? Oh yes they always have a higher temp. late in the afternoon than earlier in the day.
With teething they can have loose bowels, and be warm while a tooth is cutting the gum. Especially the larger teeth.
This to shall pass, try not to be overly concerned.

Hun the first thing you need to know that a high temp in someone is the sign of pain/infection of some sort.. It isn't necessary however to take him to the ER unless that temp reaches above 103.6 and doesn't come down at all with administering tylenol, motrin, etc. Also you can even at 16 months old let him eat on freezer pops, push liquids on him... he needs them. I would however get him into his regular physian soon as there is an indication that something is wrong. A temp of over 104 is dangerous and can lead to seizures.. also cool baths, lay and ice rag on his pulse points best places, are back of neck, and also wrists.

Give him a bath, that should bring it down, take him outside that should bring it down, make sure you are giving him children's fever reducer. Like tylenol. You actually shouldnt take him to the ER yet. As long as hes taking fluids theres really nothing they are going to do for him. A high type is considered 103. Anything over 103 should be watched alot closer. 101.4 isnt as bad as it seems. Just try to give him alot of liquids and try to get his fever to break. Like i said take him for a short walk, let him play in the tub with some toys. It will be alright. Im a mom of 4 little boys, ive been there and done that. Just dont rush to the ER yet, just to sit for 4 hours waiting, Thats much more damage then trying to break his fever.......I experienced this.....You rush to the ER child in arms, high fever. Get there sit and wait finally the nurse checks you in. Child ALWAYS acts like hes feeling better, fever broke. Why? Cause you took him into the cool air. Try it :) GOODLUCK!

im assuming this is a oral temp..which isnt very accurate. You need to take a tympanic temp( from the ear) those are most accurate. Your babys' temp is probably higher than that. It does also depend on if you have been giving a pain reliever. Dont take him to the ER yet, call your peds office and explain to them in detail, to the triage nurse and she/he will tell you what your next step should be, if you dont have a peds dr, call the ER and talk to their triage nurse, they cannot give advice over the phone but can tell you if he should be seen. You should do this ASAP as a high fever can be damaging to the brain. Dont freak out, relax your son will be fine. but pls call right now.
good luck.

My doctor told me to bring a fever down give them a luke warm bath (more on the cool side) and use tylonal then advil (swich every other dose, check how many hours between doses, because they are different ). Unless the temp is over 104 baby should be finn. But follow up with the doctor if the fevr is not breaking.

104......Just keep alternating motrin and tylenol and give tepid baths. Also I would make an appointment with your baby's doctor. My son had the same issue last winter and I took him to the doc, only to find out that he had an ear infection. It lasted for 4 months straight. 103 fever and puking all day and all night long. It was rough. Get your baby in asap. so if it is something like that, you can catch it quickly.

You need to talk to his pediatrician, or the on call pediatrician at the hospital. They may want to check him out, but if he is drinking plenty and there is no concern for dehydration, you can just use Childrens Tylonel to keep the fever down. 101.4 is a safe temp., not much to worry about.

One thing that works for us is alternating Tylenol and Ibuprofen. In other words, several hours after a dose of one, give a dose of the other. That way neither one completely wears off before the other one takes effect.
I don't take my child to the doctor unless he's showing other worrisome signs, like dehydration, or total lack of energy, or pain, or stiff neck. Follow your instincts. Call your doctor if you have doubts.
I hope he feels better soon.

I personally wouldn't consider that a high temp in a child that age. Unless the child seemed uncomfortable, I wouldn't even medicate prior to a temp of 102 degrees.
