A number of miracles were bestowed upon and performed by the Prophet Muhammad(P) to establish the proof of his prophet-hood. The greatest miracle bestowed upon him was the revelation of the Qur'an. The Qur'an is miraculous in a number of aspects: Its linguistic perfection and inimitability, its validation by recent historical, archaeological, and scientific discoveries, its prophecies and so on. Unlike the miracles of other prophets before him, the miracle of the Qur'an is eternal. Prophet Muhammad(P) also provided us with a number of true prophecies.

Many miracles were performed by the Prophet Muhammad by God’s permission. These miracles were witnessed by many people. For example:

1. When the unbelievers in Makkah asked the Prophet Muhammad to show them a miracle, he showed them the splitting of the moon.1

2. Another miracle was the flowing of water through Muhammad’s fingers when his companions got thirsty and had no water except a little in a vessel. They came to him and told him that they had no water to make ablution nor to drink except for what was in the vessel. So, Muhammad put his hand in the vessel, and the water started gushing out between his fingers. So, they drank and made ablution. They were one thousand five hundred companions.2

Salaam alaikum. There are two types of miracles. One is limited in time and space and the other kinds are timeless. An example of a temporary miracle would be the parting of the Red Sea by Moosa (Moses). Only those witnessed that miracle who were present at THAT TIME in THAT PLACE. Same thing applies to any of many miracles that different Prophets of Allah performed for various reasons. But those who were not there witnessing it directly, the miracle really became like a story. If someone would say that did not take place, you can not prove it, except saying I believe it did happen. If someone says it may not have happened, you have no proof otherwise to show it did happen. In contrast, Allah has blessed our Prophet with some miracles which are of a timeless nature. I will offer an example and an experiment to do for anyone to test this miracle. Write ten pages of information, any information on a subject you like or write an article by hand. Ask ten of your close friends to write it down word for word, by hand and pass it on to ten more friends who should do the same. This will result in one hundred hand written copies of your article. Tell your friends to be extremely careful not to make any mistakes, without telling them why you are doing this experiment. Collect these copies at the end of a month and check for mistakes and determine a percentage of mistakes. Then compare this to the number of pages a normal Quran has and multiply the errors made by dividing the number of pages of the Quran by 10 and then multiply it by 1400(years) x12 months. We will ignore the fact that most of your friends perhaps all speak the same language and your article will not go out of the country presumably. It will begin to give you a rough idea of the miraculous nature of the Quran not changing over centuries. Pick up a Quran from any part of the globe, and compare it to another. You will be surprised to see that they are exactly the same. This was a challenge of our Prophet which has come true. This is a miracle that can not be matched by anyone else. Another miracle to think about is this: A father can not even have his own children do what he wants, let alone all people in his family, let alone all people in his neighborhood, let alone all people in his city, let alone all people in his nation. In a mere ten years (the first thirteen years were years of struggle), the Prophet of Islam established his faith permanently and completely in his own nation. America can not establish their system in Iraq or Afghanistan or anywhere else, in spite of all the power they have. Those who say the Prophet established Islam by the power of the sword forget that USSR could not keep the ideology of communism established in their country, although they had nuclear weapons and an organized state that was capable of sending people in space and making missiles that could cross continents. These to me are unmatchable living miracles. Why do we have to depend on temporal miracles which immediately become hearsay? Please know that I am not questioning miracles. I am just saying when you have these great miracles in front of us for anyone at any place to check them out, why depend on miracles that can be witnessed only by those people who are at a given place at a given time when the miracle took place. I hope I am making sense, and Jazak'Allah Khair for asking the question and providing me the opportunity to respond. Ali

Yes .. number of miracles mentioned in Qura'n and hadith something around 40 miracle. the greatest was qura'n , the everlasting miracle.

One of them was splitting of moon

Qura'n Sura 54
- The Hour (of Judgment) is nigh, and the moon is cleft asunder.
- But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, This is (but) transient magic.
- They reject (the warning) and follow their (own) lusts but every matter has its appointed time.

(Shahi Bukhari) Vol 4, Book 56. Virtues And Merits Of The Prophet ....
Hadith 831.

Narrated By Anas: That the meccan people requested Allah's Apostle to show them a miracle, and so he showed them the splitting of the moon.

He did not perform any miracles. You can see it from the Koran...he was surprised that any one even wanted him to prove that he was a prophet he says he is. He killed if you did not believe in him.
