This makes no sense to me. I called one of the help lines for a computer software program and I couldn't understand what they were saying because their English was so bad! How is this helpful?

outsourcing..saves companies millions, but makes the customer annoyed..i do agree though...if it is an american product though...if you call a helpline and it says for english press one...well, you should get someone that speaks english..only seems fair to me...but some software companies may be based outside the US, in which its kinda fair game..but if its in the US..learn english, they shouldnt even have the option of "for spanish press 2"

Usually the customer care for those kind of companies is outsourced to India or another country in that region. So you probably have been talking to someone for whom English is a second or third language. The reason that this happens, is because labour is much cheaper in India than it is in the US or Europe.

These people actually have to pretend that they are not Indian. They are told to use a fake, English sounding name at work. They get payed really bad and have appalling work circumstances.

If you have problems with this you should write in to the company involved. But I don't think it'd make a difference....

No, just need to make the effort to understand. I assume you are talking about the indian tech assistance. I've found them to be friendly and more knowledgable than american help lines. Also they are generally available on a 24 hr basis. With the world wide web a company could have a 24 hr help line and all of its employees working a regular 9 to 5 day. What a deal.

On the English I'd bet the Indians would score higher than you on a standard english test. True they are sometimes hard to follow but I can live with that.

Yes it bothers the hell out of me!!!! when you're calling information you are calling them for some kind of help, so you don't need someone to get on there who can't speak English, when calling the info you are paying for this call, and why is it that people like that can get Jobs having to talk to American people and they can't understand them. as I'm sure we can't get that same Job if we don't speak in Spanish.

Not only is it annoying but then most of them have the nerve to get crabby because you can't understand them. I used to try to be patient with them but now I just try to use the 'contact us' section of their websites whenever possible. And just try to get a job with one of these companies if you do speak English clearly. It won't happen. Unfortunately, business only want our money and will do anything to keep it. Ever noticed the signs that say: "The customer is always right"? Ever found a business that means it? I haven't found too many.

It is everywhere you've got a helpline. I had that problem calling airlines and credit card companies and I don't know how many other places. It should be illegal. Or they should send a check for having to be so frustrated like call it mental anguish or something. Anybody know a slick lawyer?

It is not helpful at all, in fact I find the homepage of the manufacturer where they list their stockholders and they usually have a contact link there, you would be surprised at how fast you get a call from an English speaking customer service rep after one e-mail to them.

If it is a US hot line, yes it does. If it is a worldwide line, not so much unless there is a separate number for English. If there is, they should speak it.

I agree it seems like no matter what you are calling on they dont speak english and it makes you more frustrated to figure out your problem it seems to be everything and everywhere they have people that do not speak english.

When I pay American money for a product I expect any help that I need in English and I tel the Peron or his supervisor that.
