It is such an unfortunate misconception that herbs will fix anything. However, in this case, you must listen to your endocrinologist about how to handle the problem. Simply put, with Grave's your body is prompting your thyroid to overproduce thyroid hormone, which is making your metabolism go all awry. It can cause heart palpitations (been there, done that), muscle loss (got the T Shirt), and permanent bulging eyes (thank goodness, no experience there). Grave's is not an issue to take lightly and you must listen to the doctor and follow his/her advice.
Grave's can kill. It is a nasty and insidious little autoimmune disease, one I would not play with. Go to the doctor -- they know what they are doing. Do not try to listen to the charlatans out there who claim to have a homeopathic cure ... THEY DON'T CURE YOU.

I have Graves Disease and have had thyroid storm.... Ain't nuttin to be playin with. Herbs will not cure Graves. Herbs will not control Graves.Your choices are radioactive iodine or surgery. I had RI twice and there is still enough of the thyroid left to occasionally case a problem. In my opinion, the only successful treatment of Graves disease is to have the thyroid surgically removed. And this is no big deal.I know the emotional roller-coaster you are on, so feel free to email Me.
We are lucky to have an active support group on the Internet. This site is well monitored to keep misinformation off, and medical doctors are available for questions. The staff is well trained and all of them have Graves. Please try their bulletin board. Again, email me if you would like.

None. There are two treatments for Graves disease: methimizole or propylthiouracil (PTU). And you don't really have a choice between them. If you are in the US, you will get methimizole. In Europe, you will get PTU.
Graves' disease is not something to fool around with. Take the methimizole. Why wouldn't you???

Anything other than the medication your doctor prescribed for your hyperthyroidism---you need to check with your endocrinologist. Do not mess with your hormone levels. Having graves is bad enough.
