I had my surgery 5 days ago and I am still in pain. I am dying to eat solid food again but I still can't even open my jaw all the way. Is this normal?

It took me about a month to heal after I had my wisdom teeth removed. I had all of mine removed at once too.

I had a total of 5 wisdom teeth. One was impacted. I had them all pulled at once for two reasons. I did not want to go through that pain more than once. The second reason is I would have been out of pocket more money. So I just got it all done at one time. They did put me to sleep. I did not experience much pain except for when I did a lot of talking. I stay on top of the Advil, which is probably why I did not swell. He did prescribe me lortab, but I only took them when I was in serious pain which was hardly ever. Did not like the why lortab made me feel. I alternated between the heating pad and ice pack. Just follow the doctor's orders to the "T" and everything should be fine.

The healing process for wisdom teeth removal varies from person to person. I had all four teeth removed at the same time and was eating solid foods the next day with no problems, but my brother had the same thing done and it took him 2 weeks to be able to eat solids. You might want to have the dentist do a check-up, just to make sure that there are no infections and that everything is going ok. Hope you feel better soon.

Everyone's healing time is different, but I too believe you should call your doctor immediately.
I had all four wisdom teeth pulled, and went to work the next day. I'd say 2-3 days is max with pain/not eating.

2 weeks.

My sister in law was the same way. She could only open her mouth just enough to fit a baby spoon in. She lived off mashed potatoes and anything creamy that would fit on a baby spoon. She was unable to talk at first and finally after a few days she was able to start talking but could not open her mouth half way.

After 2 weeks she was able to pretty much do everything normal again. It just takes some time. Take it easy and try to eat what you can as much as you can.

I had all 4 taken out and ate pizza (very carefully) that night about 10 hours after the procedure. Looking back now, I must have been pretty hungry. I was in the Marine Corps at the time, so I'm sure beer was involved also.

I feel for you - I had the same thing, although mine were cut out before they came through because there was no room for them.

It was around 10 days before I could manage anything solid, so don't worry - try to get lots of soups and things inside you. I presume you can't open jaw your properly because of the swelling - don't worry about this, it will go down! I looked like a chipmunk after mine and I was worried it would stay like this, but don't worry it won't!

Good luck, get well soon!

took me almost a month to get the swelling down and heal up the incisions the oral surgeon made to get my wisdom teeth out, also all four at once. Ice helps alot.

After about a week you should be able to eat solid food, at least I think that's how long it took me. Be sure to rinse your mouth regularly to keep infection away and if you are still experiencing a lot of pain in a couple days, call your dentist.

Doesn't sound normal, maybe you have a low tolerance for pain, but sometimes something called,"Dry Socket" can occur and you might want to go back to the dentist if not better in another couple of days!
