2. Join the Military.
3. Pray.
4. Elect me president.*
5. Amend the Constitution so I don't have to be 35 to be president.
6. Get married.
7. Took a double-take at that last one, huh? Well, if you get married (to the someone of the other gender, you gays), then you will be preserving the foundation of society against the radicals that want to tear it apart.

Here's what I can think of:

+ tap all phones, monitor online activities, install surveillance cameras
+ require all citizens to carry government-issued ID at all times
+ increase police and FBI forces in disguise
+ create a nighttime curfew
+ allow government officials and police free rein over private poverty if they believe it may have national implications
+ punish those who endanger new safety rules and procedures
+ immediately refuse to trade with countries who do not follow US policy
+ border policy: nobody in, nobody out
+ ban clothing, jewelry, and luggage from airplane passengers
+ identify people who are racially or culturally susceptible to terrorist involvement, remove from country or interrogate
+ nuclear punishment on countries who are perceived as undermining US security
+ institute transparent government in which American people are fully informed about their own government's activities
+ educate US citizens about sociopolitical reasons behind terrorism in the USA, and changes in US international practices that might mediate it
+ uphold ethical and socially/environmentally responsible governmental and economical behaviour internationally
+ institute a new governmental practice of thinking of global/human priorities, rather than national or hegemonic priorities

Now, there are three things to protect Americans from, theoretically, depending on your own opinion:

1. Other people (e.g. terrorists)
2. Themselves (e.g. crime)
3. Ideas (e.g. communism)

Each threat has three potential options for protection:

A) Defend self from harm.
B) Attack the potentially harmful.
C) Prevent the potentially harmful from having motivation to harm.

Endless combinations can be used! My list above covers examples from all three strategies, although I prefer ones which correspond to A and C. I think that in any other case, the protection of the human rights of American people (such as the right to freedom and free speech) will be violated...not to mention those of other countries.

But that's just me.

Hopefully I'll be dead before 1984.
