Hi Fredrick,
I hope that in any of my answers you don't feel like I am putting the Catholic faith down. My only desire in answering this is to share information. The information that I want to share is, that in many areas what the Roman Catholic church teaches is different than what the bible teaches. There are similarities.
However the differences are great enough to get me to want to share what I know. The differences like:
purgatory - this is not biblical
indulgences - they are not biblical
praying to Mary or saints - not biblical
confessing sins to a man rather than to God - not biblical
saying that the bread and wine are the actual body of Christ - not biblical
Catholicism is a religion
Christianity is a relationship
It is ONLY through a relationship with Jesus that we are saved and have eternal life. Jesus shed His precious blood on the cross for my sins and yours. He is the ONLY Way to heaven.
I encourage you to study the (non- catholic) bible for yourself. Ask questions, check answers against the Word of God. People have often posed the questions "But aren't Catholics saved?" and my answer would be if they are, then they would want to follow Christ, follow what the bible says and not participate in a religion that does not follow the bible fully.
Martin Luther, although he was human and not a perfect man, did have a good point.
Here is a web site for you to check out:
http://www.reachingcatholics.org/mainpage.html
I hope you don't feel that this is a put down. I love Jesus. He loves you and doesn't want you to go through this life without the truth of His Word.
Blessings to you my friend.

Attacking the Catholic Church is the only way to keep some people from discovering the truth of it.
Throughout modern history, anyone who has ever taken the time to discover the true Catholic faith has been compelled by grace, and by their own conscience to become Catholic.
So long as people believe the lies they are told about the Catholic Church, and they fail to even consider the truth of it, the false teachers are safe, and the money keeps flowing in.
Many Catholics do a lousy job of learning, practicing, and defending their faith, too.
It's a real shame, all the way around.

I was raised Catholic and there are things I do not agree with in the doctrine. I am not going to put you down for being Catholic but I hope you do understand that you don't need a priest to intercede with your transgressions. Praying to Mary is not the same thing as having your mother put in a good word for you to your father (that's what my mom says it is like). Why pray to saints?? Big thing....statues of Mary and bowing to them. Books added and verses subtracted in the Bible.....that's just some of the problems I know people have within this faith.
I am not putting you and your faith down, but you asked why.
Do you accept that Christ is Savior?? Do you know He alone is the way to salvation?? Christ is sufficient in all things.......that is what is important, not what faith you belong to. Who is going to agree on everything anyway. Your belief in Christ is what matters.

Check out the M.O. of the Evil One. Throughout the ages he has continuously mocked Holy things. Now, true there is alot of derision against the Mormons or Jehovah Witnesses--but, they are so far out there the Devil knows they are no threat--but, the real Church is getting it both barrels these last days. He doesn't really have to worry about other denominations. The thing is he can not do battle with God and win, many people are starting to see through his trickery.

Because it is the One, True, Holy, and Apostolic, Church.
Satan's forces know this and see the Catholic Church as evil's biggest threat in the world.
So, when you think about it that way, those put-downs are a compliment, granted it's a back-handed compliment, but still a compliment.
When you consider that Jesus allowed Himself to be crucified for us, the least we could do it bear a few taunts for Him.

Do not get me wrong; I do not agree with all 'Catholic' teachings (I was in RCIA awhile); however Catholicism does make part of the 'jump' from walking by sight,to walking by faith (2 Cor. 5:7). (Along with partially abiding by the 2 or more witnesses principle (Matt. 18:16). Many 'Christian' denominations presently in the U.S. do not.
By the way,Catholicism is not the only faith 'put down' on Y R&S.

Haven't you noticed that here in Yahoo Answers other religions are put down as well? You're not alone. There's a lot of bad posts about Muslims, Jehovah Witnesses, and the Mormons.
Don't be offended by what people say about your religion. Usually they're ignorant, biased, or just plain rude. It's their problem, not yours.

As Christians we all are. It's not just Catholics, but I do agree that far too many comments are made about Catholic traditions. I think people have a hard time understanding some of these traditions that are not Biblical, but they shouldn't put you down because of it.

People are predispotioned to hate Christians, and since the Catholics are viewed as more "fantical" because we have a pope and are a large group, we get a lot of backlash. The media is ready to pounce on anything that shines religion in a bad light, the facts don't matter. Then those who already don't like us, jump on those stories and scream, "Aha! I knew it!" and never look to see if the stories are true. They claim us to be stubborn, pushy and brainwashed without ever looking at themselves and how their actions are the very example of what they accuse us to be.
In short, people like to believe and promote the worst in something.

Likely because you have to be a supreme being to even BEGIN to try to adhere to the rules that are set forth by the church. They don't allow for the fact that they are dealing with human beings.
