I have had black, tarry, sometimes loose stools on and off for the past 3 weeks. I am almost constantly nauseated and I vomit at least once daily. Yesterday there were some red blood streaks in my vomit. I get heartburn a lot. What could be wrong?

You have a GI bleed somewhere. You really should go to the ER now! Sounds like it is possibly a bleeding ulcer!

Please see the webpages for more details on Peptic ulcer. Tarry black stools indicate digested blood. The cause may be due to internal bleeding from the stomach ulcer. Consult your Gastroenterlogist. Peptic ulcer may sometimes lead to stomach cancer. An esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), a form of endoscopy, also known as a gastroscopy, will be carried out on patients in whom a peptic ulcer is suspected. By direct visual identification, the location and severity of an ulcer can be described.

I am an endoscopy nurse and some of the advice that you already recieved is correct. You should see a physician asap. It does sound like you may have some type of upper gi bleeding going on.

You could have food poisening. When I was in Iraq this happened to me twice. Once from bad water that the army provided me and once from eating Iraqi food. Which i server never to do again. You should see a doctor or a medic. These things can be fixed and dealt with. It usually takes about a week to fully bounce back from the illness.

Go to a doctor, now. Sounds like some sort of ulcer. Look for a good gastrointerologist.

Run, don't walk to the urgent care center, or doc's if she can get you in imediately. Black in your stool means your bleeding internally and you KNOW its not ok for you to be vomiting daily for all this time. Don't get too scared, they can fix you up.
