We just bought a sony internal burner. The ones we've had before used to burn movies in about 10-20 minutes. This one is new and it takes almost 2-3 hours just to do one movie. In addition, this is our second new burner. We bought an LG burner before this and it took too long so we thought it was the burner and returned it and got the one we have now. Is it the burner or our PC? How long do burners usually take and is there a way to fix it?

Personally, I don't use Sony ANYTHING.

It depends on many things, CPU speed, memory, length of movie, whether it has to be recoded, etc.

One thing you CAN do is make sure DMA access is "enabled" on the DVD burner. (That can make what took hours before change to less than 20 minutes!)

Burning movies REGULARLY takes my system (3Ghz CPU, 1Gb RAM, 200+Mb HD) anywhere from 10 minute to over an hour depending on the movie.
In some cases I have to "play" the movie into the system from a player (VHS tapes) and then convert, and THEN burn DVD. A 2 hour movie done that way can take over 3 hours!! (I have 1 system set up JUST for editing and recording movies!!)

Fast as possible. I use 16x external HP 740.. But your DVD drive must be compatible to use them.. Now it also depends on the length of the movie.. But Movies do take a long time and the faster the drive (16x) the faster the recording.. A movie could take as long as 2 hours if you fill up the DVD and even longer if you use the double size ones... Also be sure reboot first and do not use the computer for anything else while burning..

If you're just burning an image of a movie, it should take 10-20 minutes. If your burning program is also transcoding the movie before burning it, it can take all night long.
