I only thought about this recently, if I were a 'terrorist' in Iraq, I would want the foriegn troops out, these foriegn troops would move out pretty fast if there was no more hassle, wouldnt they? It must be a costly exercise keeping them there? Both financially and politically!
Why dont the 'terrorists' lay off until the foriegn troops are satisfied and go home, then when the coast is clear, go back into buisness and do whatever???
Yes I am aware the troops would return eventually but look at the cost?? Politically and financially!
Or have I over simplified the issue??
Why are foriegn troops still in reland, isnt that similar????

You have grossly over simplified. The terrorist a no longer the main enemy it's the religious groups who hate one another and trying to get even for past wrongs that are the problem. These people don't care about the US or it's troops except when we get in there way of killing there enemies. We tend to get in there way when we sweep neighborhoods for weapons. There wasn't a real terrorist problem until we got there. Now the war has evolved beyond us and the terrorist. This country is divided into a complex maze of tribal and religious groups and they all have guns and grievances and until they get it out of there system we are spinning our wheels there and so are the terrorist.

Your basic error in thinking is to believe that there is only one group of opposition to the foreign troops - wrong.

There are many groups and as well as fighting foreign troops the majority are also fighting each other, therefore the fighting cannot just stop for fear another group will gain the balance of power.

Whoever gains the ascendancy over the others gains power and that's what its all about, because ultimately the group with the most power will gain control of the country.

if the terrorists did stop fighting for a while then that would be the best thing to happen. why? because that way the iraqi government would be able to get stronger and set up quickly and we can leave. if the terrorists do start fighting again then we DO NOT have to go back because the iraqi government should be able to deal with it by themselves... but we both know that will never happen

problem is is I am quite sure that some of have thought of that but there are so many different terrorist groups right now and even if they organized and decided upon this we could still never leave anyways because we would know that this is a tactic of theirs, it's a no win situation, we are stuck being there forever now

We call them Terrorists, or insurgents, but in their eyes, they are patriots defending their land. I'm not saying who is right or who is wrong, I'm just saying that's how they see it, and if we had been invaded, we would be doing the same thing

In order for your idea to work, you would first have to assume that terrorist have a logical, thinking brain. So, I don't think it would ever happen.

The terrorist want to be in charge at all times, so I believe you have oversimplified.
